Many enterprises claim that their data centers are built in accordance with Uptime Tier4 standards, but in fact these data centers are not certified by Uptime. Uptime is a global independent research institution founded in 1993. It has created the most authoritative Tier certification and rating system in the data center field, which is also the de facto standard for data center design and construction. In July this year, Zhongke Xianluo Research Institute, a subsidiary of Boyuneng Group, signed a cooperation agreement with Uptime in Shanghai.

Uptime enters China

Under the cooperation agreement, Uptime authorizes China Science and Technology Xianluo Research Institute as its sales partner in China, and the two sides will jointly promote the promotion of Uptime services in China, with emphasis on Tier certification and gap analysis as well as Tier certification services. In addition, Zhongke Xianluo Research Institute will gradually expand the number of Uptime members based on its own industry quality resources, and help more high-end customers in the industry to understand Uptime's professional services, so as to improve the availability and efficiency of the data center and reduce energy consumption.

"the high overlap of industry concepts, the complementarity of products and business, and the coverage and expansion of industry resources are important bases for cooperation." Zhongke Xianluo Research Institute has been focused on the data center field, can provide industry users with computer room energy conservation consulting, health assessment, testing and acceptance and other technical services, technical training and related information services. In the future, Zhongke Xianluo Research Institute will also work with Uptime to launch vertical industry customization services for Chinese users, so that the local needs of Chinese users can seamlessly link up with Uptime services, which is not only a process of Uptime service localization, but also enable Chinese users to re-understand the risks and challenges that may be faced by data center software and hardware systems and key management links. Yang Xiaoyi said: "We can provide testing services in the computer room, and can provide relevant data to Uptime, but it is up to Uptime to decide whether to pass the certification or not."

Standard is indispensable

In the past, there was little publicity about Uptime in China, and many people did not understand Uptime and its certification system, and some people often confused Uptime Tier certification with TIA92 standards. In fact, there is no lack of standards in the data center field, including national standards, industry standards and international standards, but these standards are not completely unified, and some standards update relatively slowly, so it is difficult to keep up with the development needs of new technologies. Relatively speaking, Uptime Tier certification is the most recognized standard in the industry, and many data centers are proud of Uptime Tier certification.

Cheng Xiaodan, chairman of Boyuneng Group, said that it is difficult for data centers to pass Uptime Tier certification. First of all, enterprises have to communicate with Uptime in the design stage of the data center, and must design in strict accordance with the standards of Uptime. After the completion of the data center, Uptime will arrange various tests and determine whether it meets T-level construction standards based on the audit results.

When signing the contract with Zhongke Xianluo Research Institute, the chief operating officer of Uptime flew to Shanghai to attend the signing ceremony. Uptime has a membership system, but there are only about 20 members in the Asia-Pacific region, and only China Merchants Bank, Huawei and so on. With the help of Xianluo Research Institute of China Science and Technology, Uptime will have a bright future in the Chinese market.

The standard of cloud data center construction has been put on the agenda. In China, some cloud computing alliance organizations have launched the so-called cloud data center construction standards, but now it is in the draft stage and there is still a long way to go for large-scale promotion. Cheng Xiaodan believes that from the perspective of the underlying architecture of the data center, the cloud data center is no different from the ordinary data center, requiring infrastructure such as UPS and cooling. But when it comes to cloud applications, the biggest change is that the data center infrastructure should adapt to the requirements of virtualization and provide support for changing loads. Chinese users pay close attention to the energy saving and emission reduction of data centers, and are increasingly sensitive to the PUE value, an indicator of the energy efficiency of computer rooms. However, Uptime currently does not have a standard to evaluate the greening of computer rooms.
