How does ECS use snapshots to create disks to achieve lossless expansion of data disks? This problem may be often seen in our daily study or work. I hope you can gain a lot from this question. The following is the reference content that the editor brings to you, let's take a look at it!

ECS uses snapshots to create disks to achieve lossless expansion of data disks

When expanding a data disk, if it cannot be expanded without loss due to disk reasons, you can temporarily purchase an independent cloud disk to store the data, and then format the data disk thoroughly. Here are the steps:

1. First, create a snapshot based on the current data disk and back up the data. at the same time, you can use this snapshot to directly create a separate cloud disk to save time for copying data back and forth.

two。 Open the purchase page (https://ecs-buy.aliyun.com/#/clouddisk) of an independent cloud disk, select the region of the same availability zone as ECS, and purchase an independent cloud disk. When purchasing, directly select to create a disk with a snapshot, and use the snapshot in step 1.

3. Open the ECS console disk page, find the independent cloud disk you just purchased, and mount the independent cloud disk to the ECS in more options.

4. Log in to the server, mount this independent cloud disk to the system using the mount command, and check to see if the files in it are consistent with those in the data disk.

5. After confirming that the data in the independent cloud disk is correct, use fdisk to delete the original partition table, and then use fdisk and mkfs.ext3 to partition and format the data disk again to make the available space of the data disk become the size of the expanded data disk.

6. After that, all the data in the independent cloud disk is copied back to the data disk through the cp-R command, and the-- preserve=all parameter can be added to retain the attributes of the file when copying.

7. Umount stand-alone cloud disks in ECS.

8. Uninstall this independent cloud disk in the disk console of ECS, and then select release (uninstall first, then release), and the operation is complete.
