WEB server can also be called website server, which can provide documents to Web clients such as browsers, or place website files for the whole world to browse, and place data files for download all over the world. At present, the three most mainstream Web servers are Apache, Nginx and IIS. But we need to know not only the mainstream WEB servers, but also the common WEB servers.

1.Apache

Apache is the number one Web server software in the world. It can run on almost all computer platforms. Because Apache is open source and free, many people are involved in the development and design of new features and constantly improve them. Apache is characterized by simplicity, high speed, stable performance, and can be used as a proxy server.

2.IIS

IIS (Internet Information Service) is the abbreviation of InternetInformationServer. It is a server promoted by Microsoft. The characteristics of IIS are: security, power and flexibility. Can only be installed in the windows operating system.

3.Nginx

Nginx is not only a compact and efficient HTTP server, but also an efficient reverse proxy for load balancing. It can greatly improve the concurrency ability of Rails applications by accepting users' requests and distributing them to multiple Mongrel processes.

4.Tomcat

Tomcat is a core project of the Jakarta project of the Apache Software Foundation (ApacheSoftwareFoundation), which is jointly developed by Apache, Sun and other companies and individuals. Tomcat has advanced technology, stable performance, and free, so it is deeply loved by Java enthusiasts and recognized by some software developers, and has become a more popular Web application server.

5.Zeus

Zeus is a very good Web server running under Unix. It is said to outperform Apache and is one of the most efficient Web servers.

6.Lighttpd

Lighttpd is an open source WEB server software based on BSD license developed by German JanKneschke. Its fundamental purpose is to provide a secure, fast, compatible and flexible webserver environment specifically for high-performance websites. It has the characteristics of very low memory overhead, low CPU occupancy, good efficiency, and rich modules. Support FastCGI,CGI,Auth, output compression (outputcompress), URL rewriting, Alias and other important functions.
