ECS instance is the core concept of CVM. Other resources, such as disks, IP, mirrors, snapshots, etc., can only be used in combination with ECS instances. Instance specification: refers to the configuration of the instance, including CPU core, memory, network performance, etc. The specification of ECS instance determines the computing and storage capacity of CVM instance.

To start the instance is to start the system.

You can start the instance on the CVM console to keep the instance running. Log in to the ECS Management console. In the left navigation bar, click the instance. Select the region. Find the instance that needs to be started, and in the actions column, select more > start.

To stop the instance is to shut down the computer.

Stop the instance on the console, leaving the instance in a stopped state. Stopping instances will not affect the billing of prepaid (prepaid and weekly) instances, but will affect the billing of postpaid instances. After the instance is stopped successfully, the instance enters the stopped state.

For postpaid VPC ECS instances, if you choose not to retain the instance after stopping, the corresponding stop mode column in the instance list will be displayed as downtime free, otherwise, it will be retained and charged. For other types of ECS instances, stop mode does not display information.
