2 、 PortFast
By default, when the interface of the switch is connected to the router or PC, it takes 30 seconds for the port to go through the three states of Listening, Learning and Forwarding before it becomes the forwarding state. After the port is configured as PortFast, the switch interface enters the forwarding state as soon as it accesses the router or PC, which can reduce the number of seconds to enter the forwarding state by 30 seconds.
Configuration method:
Global mode: spanning-tree portfast default
Interface mode: spanning-tree portfast enabled
Interface mode: spanning-tree portfast disable disabled
We observed on S3 the time it takes to transition to the forwarding state before and after configuring e0swap 2 to PortFast.
3 、 UplinkFast
When the uplink e0swap 0 of S3 fails, it takes 30 seconds for e0apace 1 to go through the three states of Listening, Learning and Forwarding before it becomes the forwarding state. Configure S3 so that once the UplinkFast switch detects a failure of e0amp0, e0amp1 will immediately enter the forwarding state, which can be reduced by 30 seconds to enter the forwarding state.
Configuration method:
Global configuration mode: spanning-tree uplinkfast
We observed on S3 how long it takes before and after configuring S3 to uplinkfast, and after turning off e0apace 0, e0lap1 changes to the forwarding state.
4 、 BackboneFast
Before the link between S1 and S2 fails, S2 forwards it to S3 after receiving a BPDU from S1 containing its own BID. When the link between S1 and S2 fails, S2 sends the BPDU containing its own BID to S3MagneS3. When it is found that the BID in the received BPDU is different from the previous BID, it continues to wait for 20s aging time. After that, e0Charger 1 takes another 30s to go through the three states of Listening, Learning and Forwarding, which takes a total of 50s to become a forwarding state.
When S1, S2, and S3 are all configured as BackboneFast, when S3 receives a BPDU that is different from the previous BID, it will send a RLQ from the root port to query whether the original root bridge exists. After the root bridge responds, the e0 / 1 port will directly go through the three states of Listening, Learning and Forwarding, and finally it will only take 30 seconds to change into the forwarding state.
Configuration method:
Global configuration mode: spanning-tree backbonefast
We observed on S1 the time it takes for e0Univer 1 of S3 to switch to the forwarding state before and after configuring S1, S2, and S3 as backbonefast, and after turning off e0Univer 0 on S1.
