To ensure the availability of imported images and improve the efficiency of image import, you need to consider the restrictions imposed by ECS on imported images.

Considerations for importing images vary depending on the operating system, such as Windows type images and Linux type images.

Important suggestions

Verify the integrity of the file system before importing the image of the Windows operating system.

Please check the remaining space on the system disk to make sure the system disk is not full.

Turn off the firewall and release RDP port 3389.

The login password for an administrator account must be 8 − 30 characters and contain uppercase or lowercase letters, numbers and special symbols. The special character can be () `~! @ # $% ^ & *-+ = | {} []:;'

The system disk capacity range supports 40GiB − 500GiB based on the size of the mirrored virtual disk instead of configuring the imported system disk size with capacity.

Do not modify critical system files.

Support item

Support for multi-partition system disks.

Support NTFS file system, support MBR partitions.

RAW, qcow2 and VHD format images are supported.

Description

Before importing images in other formats, convert the image format before importing. It is recommended that you convert to VHD format with less transmission capacity.

ECS supports importing images that contain the following operating system versions:

Microsoft Windows Server 2016

Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 (Standard Edition)

Microsoft Windows Server 2012 (Standard Edition and data Center Edition)

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 (Standard, data Center, and Enterprise Edition)

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (Standard, data Center, and Enterprise Edition)

Windows Server 2003 (Standard, data Center, and Enterprise Edition) or later with Service Pack 1 (SP1)

Unsupported item

Installing qemu-ga in the image is not supported, otherwise some of the services required by ECS will be unavailable.

Windows XP, Professional, and Enterprise Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10 are not supported.

Install the virtualization platform XEN or KVM driver.

It is recommended that you install cloud-init to ensure successful configuration of hostname, NTP feeds, and yum feeds.

IPv6 address is not supported.

Adjusting system disk partition is not supported. Currently, only a single root partition is supported.

Matters needing attention

Depending on whether the Linux system image you imported is a standard platform image, you need to pay attention to different issues.

We define the officially released operating system distribution as a standard platform image. Currently supported system versions include Aliyun Linux, CentOS 5-6-7, CoreOS 681.2.0 +, Debian 6 Lexus 7, FreeBSD, OpenSUSE 13.1, RedHat, RHEL (RedHat Enterprise Linux), SUSE Linux 10-11-12 and Ubuntu 10 Lexus 12 and 14.

Operating system platform images that are not in the list of public images provided by ECS are non-standard platform images. Although the image comes from the standard platform, there is no image that complies with the requirements of the standard platform in terms of system key configuration files, system infrastructure, and applications. If you need to use a non-standard platform image, you can only choose when importing the image:

Others Linux:ECS is uniformly identified as other system types. If you import an Others Linux platform image, ECS will not do anything with the created instance. If you enable DHCP,ECS before creating the image, the network will be automatically configured for you. After the instance is created, you need to connect to the instance through the remote connection feature of the management console, and then configure IP, routing and password by yourself.

Customized Linux: customized image. After importing the Customized Linux image, configure the network and password of the instance according to the ECS standard system configuration. For more details, see configuring Customized Linux Custom Images.
