Apple unveiled a number of new devices on Monday, including the new iPhone SE with 5G connectivity, the iPad Air with M1 chip, the Mac Studio and the newer Studio Display. However, if the new report is accurate, it is clear that more new Mac computers are about to appear.

9to5Mac reports that Apple is developing a new MacBook Air with the Apple Silicon M2 chipset, codenamed J413. The M2 chip under development is said to be based on the Apple A15 (shipped in the iPhone 13 series, 2022 iPhone SE, and the 6th generation iPad Mini) with 8 CPU cores and 10 GPU cores. It is not clear how the new chip will perform, but it may be comparable to the basic M1 rather than the higher-power M1 variants that will be released later.

It is said that a new 13-inch MacBook Pro is under development, codenamed J493. According to reports, the laptop will use a design similar to the existing 13-inch MacBook Pro, but with the same M2 chip as the rumored MacBook Air upgrade. However, there are rumors that Apple may abandon the "Pro" brand, which will make the new model a simple "MacBook". Apple's latest MacBook name is not Air or Pro. The product is the 2017 12-inch MacBook.

The current generation of 2020 MacBook Air is one of the first Mac computers to be updated with Apple Silicon chips, along with M1 Mac Mini, so it definitely needs to be upgraded. The 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1 was launched later and has the same basic design as previous Intel models (with touch bars). The 14-and 16-inch models updated last year have newer designs, higher-quality displays and more connection options. We will have to see if these upgrades will drop to 13 inches, but so far, that seems unlikely.
