Local storage: internal or external disks that can communicate without going through the network. Storage systems including scsi, ide, sata, usb, sas and other storage systems cannot be shared among multiple hosts and can only be accessed by one host.

External storage: an external storage disk or array connected by an esxi host through a network, including storage protocols such as san, iscsi, nfs, and so on. Access can be shared by multiple hosts. It is the foundation of vmotion and other advanced functions.

3. Based on the advanced functions of vmotion:vshpere, hot migration can be realized. When migrating, the memory is cloned to the new host, and the virtual machine is in a static state.

Requirement: do not allow connections to disks that can only be recognized by a single esxi host

Connection to a virtual switch without a physical network is not allowed

Migrated virtual machines must be placed on external shared storage, while hot migration requires virtual machines to have vmware tools installed

The esxi host has at least one gigabit network card for vmotion

You must ensure that the port network labels of all esxi hosts are consistent.

All esxi host cpu vendors must be consistent

4. Iscsi storage: iscsi is a storage protocol for sharing scsi storage devices through the tcp/ip network, and network storage can be used just like using local storage devices. The iscsi server that provides shared devices is called the target side, and the client that uses shared storage is called initiator. Iscsi port number: 3260/tcp
