Editor to share with you how to arrange system restore points in Windows 10. I hope you will get something after reading this article. Let's discuss it together.

System restore is one of the most critical but underestimated functions in Windows operating system. Restore points can help the computer get back to work immediately and save a lot of time for troubleshooting. The system restore point will host the program, capture their settings and Windows registry as images, and back up the necessary actions so that you can rebuild the system drive to that point when you choose to return. Although Windows often creates system restore points, you can have Windows PC create them at the scheduled time if you want.

Automatically create system restore points every day or every week

I want Windows to have built-in functionality or settings that users can easily set up their PC with one click to easily create daily or weekly restore points, but there are no such settings. You will have to use Task Scheduler to complete this task. Now let's see how to arrange one at a specific time. This is a three-step process:

-- enable system restore

-- system restore point command

Create a task in the Task Scheduler.

We also discussed how to run a task manually to confirm that it works, and a quick tutorial on how to create shortcuts for the task. It allows you to quickly create restore points.

1. Enable system restore

Although this feature should be enabled by default, it is a good idea to check that system restore is disabled. You must also configure system restore for a single drive, including disk usage options.

Windows only allows one person to create a system restore every 24 hours. If you try again, it will skip. Therefore, if you plan to create multiple restore points (sometimes manually), we need to eliminate this limitation.

Open the Registry Editor and navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows NT\ CurrentVersion\ SystemRestore

Double-click to edit SystemRestorePointCreationFrequency DWORD. Change the value to 0.

This ensures that Windows never skips the operation of creating a restore point.

two。 System restore point command

The command we will use to create a restore point is

Checkpoint-Computer-Description "TWC-RestorePoint"-RestorePointType MODIFY_SETTINGS

You can change the name TWC-RestorePoint to a different name.

MODIFY_SETTINGS is a restore point that includes the registry, local configuration files, com + DB,WFP.dll,IIS databases, and file extensions.

I recommend that you execute this command on PowerShell to ensure that it is working properly.

This is a quick demonstration of our proposed command. Notice that it creates a restore point described as TWC-RestorePoint.

In addition, you can use the following parameters:

APPLICATION_INSTALL

APPLICATION_UNINSTALL

DEVICE_DRIVER_INSTALL

CANCELLED_OPERATION

You can also use the following parameters with WMIC.EXE to create a restore point. We have explained this in detail in an article on how to use Windows to initiate automatic creation of restore points.

/ Namespace:\\ root\ default Path SystemRestore Call CreateRestorePoint "Startup RestorePoint", 100,7

3. Create a task scheduler

Now you will have to create and schedule a basic task and use the above command in the task scheduler in PowerShell

Type taskchd.msc at the run prompt, and then press Enter to open Task Scheduler. Click the create task link. Name it Restore Point Creator, and check the box that displays the most privileged operation.

If there is more than one user on the computer, select the radio button to show that it runs regardless of whether the user is logged in or not.

Switch to the trigger tab and click the New button. Here, we schedule the task to run once a day, or you can select any other item. Select each day and set the start date and time.

Switch to the actions tab and click the New button. Here, we will add commands.

Type powershell.exe in the Program / script box. In the parameters box, type the following:

Checkpoint-Computer-Description "TWC-RestorePoint"-RestorePointType MODIFY_SETTINGS

Click the OK button.

Next, if you want to configure it on your laptop, switch to the conditions tab. If the recovery point runs on the battery, you can choose to skip creating the recovery point, or if you switch to the battery, you can choose to stop creating the recovery point.

Finally, switch to the Settings tab. Here, you should configure situations where the task fails or fails because the computer is shut down. It can also handle task failures, and so on.

If you have configured it to run even if the user is not logged in, you will be prompted for a password. If you are using a Microsoft account, it is recommended that you create a local administrator account and use it for such settings that require a password.

Run the task manually to check if it is valid

Select the task we created, and then click the run button on the right panel. It immediately starts PowerShell and executes the command.

Create a shortcut to the system restore task to run at any time

The schtasks.exe program is responsible for performing tasks at its time. We can use the following parameters to create desktop shortcuts to run on demand. In our case, it would look like this:

C:\ Windows\ System32\ schtasks.exe / run / tn "Restore Point Creator"

-- right-click the desktop

-- Select New > Shortcut

-- paste the above command in that location

Name it, and then click OK.

Now, the next time you change something that may cause a problem, use this shortcut to create a restore.

In this way, we have not only learned to plan a system restore point in windows 10, but we can also create it using shortcuts at any time. Keep in mind that each time you create a restore point, it takes up some storage space. Windows automatically deletes the old restore point when the allocated disk space limit is reached, but you can also delete the old restore point manually.
