Shulou(Shulou.com)06/01 Report--
This article mainly introduces how to use Chromebook on Linux, has a certain reference value, interested friends can refer to, I hope you can learn a lot after reading this article, the following let Xiaobian take you to understand.
Chromebook is a network notebook launched by Google. It is a notebook computer developed by Google's Chrome OS system. It is an operating system based on Chrome browser and Linux kernel. This is a brand-new laptop, known as "completely online", which can provide perfect network application services.

If I make you think that enabling Linux seems easy, it's because it's really simple and deceptive. It's deceptive because you have to back up your data before enabling Linux.
This process is simple, but it does reset your computer back to its factory default state. You have to log back in to your laptop, and if you have data stored in your Google cloud drive account, you have to synchronize it back to your computer. Startup: with Linux, you also need to reserve hard disk space for Linux, so no matter what your Chromebook hard drive capacity is, it will be reduced by half or 1/4 (of your own choice).
Connecting to Linux on Chromebook is still considered a beta feature by Google, so you have to choose to use developer mode. The purpose of the developer model is to allow software developers to test new features, install new versions of the operating system, etc., but it can unlock special features that are still in development for you.
To enable developer mode, first turn off your Chromebook. Suppose you have backed up all the important information on the device.
Next, press ESC and ⟳on the keyboard, and then press the power key to start Chromebook.
ESC key and ⟳key
When prompted to start recovery, press Ctrl+D on the keyboard.
After the recovery, your Chromebook has been reset to factory settings and there are no default usage restrictions.
Boot and enter developer mode
Running in developer mode means that you will be reminded to be in developer mode every time you start Chromebook. You can press Ctrl+D to skip the startup delay. Some Chromebook will beep after a few seconds to remind you that you are in developer mode, making Ctrl+D operations almost mandatory. In theory, this is annoying, but in practice, I don't start my Chromebook very often because I just wake it up, so when I need to do so, Ctrl+D is just a small step in the startup process.
The first time you start after enabling developer mode, you must reset your device as if it were brand new. You only need to do this once (unless you deactivate developer mode at some point in the future).
Enable Linux on Chromebook
Now that you are running in developer mode, you can activate the Linux Beta function in Chrome OS. To do this, open the settings and click Linux Beta in the list on the left.
Activate Linux Beta and allocate some hard disk space for your Linux system and applications. In the worst of times, Linux is quite lightweight, so you really don't need to allocate much hard disk space, but it obviously depends on how much you plan to do with Linux. 4 GB is enough space for Linux and hundreds of terminal commands and more than two dozen graphics applications. My Chromebook has a 64 GB memory card, and I gave the Linux system 30 GB because most of what I do on Chromebook is done in Linux.
Once your Linux Beta environment is ready, you can start the terminal by pressing the search button on the keyboard and typing terminal. If you are new to Linux, you may not know what the terminal you are currently entering can be used to install. Of course, it depends on what you want to do with Linux. If you are interested in Linux programming, you may start with Bash (which is already installed and running on the terminal) and Python. If you are interested in the fascinating open source applications in Linux, you can try applications such as GIMP, MyPaint, LibreOffice or Inkscape.
Chrome OS's Linux Beta mode does not include a graphical software installer, but applications can be installed from a terminal. You can use the sudo apt install command to install the application.
The sudo command allows you to execute certain commands (that is, root in Linux) with Super Admin privileges. The apt command is an application installation tool. Install is a command option that tells apt what the command is going to do.
You must also write the name of the package you want to install with the apt command. To install LibreOffice, for example:
Sudo apt install libreoffice
When prompted to continue, enter y (for "confirm"), and then press enter.
Once the application is installed, you can start it just like any application on Chrome OS: just type its name in the application launcher.
It takes some time to learn the name of the Linux application and its package name, but you can also use the apt search command to search. For example, you can find an application about photos in the following way:
Apt search photo
Because there are many applications in Linux, you can find something you are interested in and give it a try!
Share files and devices with Linux
The Linux Beta environment runs in a container, so Chrome OS needs to gain access to the Linux file. To grant Chrome OS permission to interact with files you create on Linux, right-click the folder you want to share and select manage Linux shares.
Chrome OS's Linux management sharing interface
You can manage shared settings and other settings through Chrome OS's setup program.
