Before we experiment with static route configuration, we need to understand what a static route is and how it works!

Static route: a form of routing in which routing items (routing entry) are manually configured rather than dynamically determined. Unlike dynamic routes, static routes are fixed and will not change, even if the network condition has changed or has been reconfigured. Generally speaking, static routes are added to the routing table item by item by the network administrator.

Routing works in the network layer, routing forwards data, route selection, route forwarding according to the "routing table".

Configuration experiment of static Route

Experimental process

I. configure the router and PC

This picture shows the static routing experiment we are going to do today. Three PC are connected to four routers. As shown in the figure, what can we do to achieve interconnection among PC1, PC2 and PC3?

First of all, in GNS3, we configure the PC and the router according to the picture. Displays the name of each port.

Add 128 MiB of memory capacity to each router to store routing table information.

The default port for each router is two, and in our experiment, router R4 is connected to three other routers, so we need to configure one more port for R4. Attention! The process of configuring a router must be configured when the entire system is not powered on. After the configuration is completed, the computer can be turned on.

Second, set an IP address for each port of each PC and router. The IP address between the two connected ports must be in the same network segment, otherwise it will not be connected!

Set the IP address for each router port and three PC ports

1. Double-click the router to be set, and config t enters global mode

2. Int f0amp 0 enters interface mode and sets the IP address of f0thumb 0 to 192.168.30.2 subnet mask 255.255.255.0

3. Set each port of the router in the same way, and each setting completes an input command no shutdown (that is, enable) to enable the setting.

4. After the setting is completed, you can enter the command do show ip route to check whether the setting is complete.

5. When setting an IP address, you must make sure that the IP address you set belongs to this port, and you can't make a mistake. Even if you type the wrong number, the experiment cannot be completed, and it will be very difficult to find the wrong address.

6. Double-click PC to set PC's IP address pc1 ip 192.168.10.10 (ip address) 255.255.255.0 (subnet mask) 192.68.10.1 (gateway). Don't forget to set the PC gateway. This is easy to forget. I forgot it when I was doing the experiment, and it took me a long time to find out the problem!

Third, set the static route and the next-hop address (next-hop address: the data receiving port of the interconnected devices of R1)

In my experiment, there are four static routes in R1Magic R2recoveryR3. And R4 has three! The S in the figure represents a static route!

After the setup is completed, do show ip route displays the set IP address and static route to check if there is anything wrong with your settings. If there is no problem, our setup process is over.

Fourth, after all the IP addresses and static routes have been set up and make sure there are no errors, we have completed the settings and can begin to test whether they are interconnected.

Using PC1pingPC2, PC1pingPC3, PC2pingPC3.

The intercommunication after ping shows that my experiment is successful!

In fact, the process of the experiment is not difficult, but to set up a lot of IP addresses, it is easy to get confused and make mistakes, so we must operate carefully and be proficient in commands. The process must be careful and careful.
