Shulou(Shulou.com)05/31 Report--
Artiphon started to shine in 2013, when it started showing off a fairly crude prototype of the device that would eventually become Instrument 1. When it landed on Kickstarter in 2015, it was completely refurbished. In the final version, it has almost no design, both stylish and futuristic. Now, with its second product, Orba, the company pushes many of Instrumentation 1's core concepts to logical limits.
Part of the appeal of 103010 is that you don't have to be a world-class musician to make an exciting sound. Great for beginners, like we said in 2015 "It keeps most music stores focused on one gadget." Orba also focuses on approachability. It's a synthesizer, curler and MIDI controller that fits in the palm of your hand. It even has built-in speakers, so it's more or less completely independent.
Also, while you can click, play, or swipe around Instrument 1, Orbita can go much further. You can tap the drum on the first eight touch-sensitive pads of the drum or swipe around them for hot cues. Or, with gyroscopes and accelerometers, you can shake it and add some melaka, or play it in the air and add guitar chords. (The last one seems ridiculous. You can even add effects by rotating the entire hand. Basically, you look like you're playing real Bop it. In addition, although there are no strings or moving parts, tactile feedback is built in to prevent things from feeling uncomfortable.
Artiphon doesn't just want Orba to be a noisy object. Built-in circulator for combining simple songs. Then, you can even share those tracks directly on social media. Or, if you want to go further, you can export them to add more prosperity to your music production software of choice (like Ableton or Bitwig).
Visually, oppa is surprisingly small. It looks like a uvula drum, or a strange black citrus fruit. It is a simple hemispherical shape with a touchpad on the top and only a few buttons and ports on the sides. There is a headphone output jack and a USB-C port that can be used for charging or MIDI. It also supports Bluetooth MIDI.
Orba is currently priced at $89 on Kickstarter and is expected to be available in April 2020.
