As the Solaris team has been cut off, the Sun skeleton finally seems to have been removed and cleaned.

The news from the former Sun social media channel is that the long-standing rumors in January that the hardware systems division has laid off about 450 people are true. On Friday, Oracle laid off the core talent of the Solaris and SPARC teams. This is bound to mean that the product line is left with maintenance and no research and development in the future, especially since Solaris has been cancelled. This is a typical Oracle practice of "quietly shutting down projects", no matter what Oracle says.

After the hardware was cut, I think the last Sun asset acquired by Oracle has been written off. How wise was Oracle's decision to buy Sun? I'm not really keeping a close eye on Oracle's business, but from the report, the following seems obvious:

Ellison said he would rebuild Sun's hardware business, but the team behind the hardware business had just been disbanded.

Java is hailed as the "crown jewel", but the real reason for buying Java SE (trying to sue Google for $8 billion) failed twice.

Ellison says Java's role in middleware is key to success, but Java EE is now handed over to the Open Source Foundation.

Oracle criticized Sun for "not relying on Java to make money" (ignoring the fact that Java brought a market to Sun's hardware business from 1996 to 2000) and proposed a free value-added model that did not generate revenue.

They embraced NetBeans and now donate it to the Apache Foundation.

Oracle abandoned Sun's identity management projects, which Forgerock now uses in a business valued at about $500m, driven by Oracle's estranged customers.

Oracle has decided to cancel Sun Cloud (Sun Cloud), and then the market is on a par with the cloud.

Ellison did not understand the actual failure of Sun-it had been slow to open up Solaris, trying to adopt a marketing-led approach from 2000 to 2002, rather than Sun's traditional technology-led approach, but blamed the scapegoat for cleaning up the mess. Oracle said it would "reinvigorate the Sun brand", but the result was a more deadly blow to it than any Sun executive. Like many former Sun workers today, this makes me extremely sad.
