Editor to share with you how to use the Fluxbox desktop as your window manager in linux, I believe most people don't know much about it, so share this article for your reference. I hope you can learn a lot after reading this article. Let's learn about it together.
Install Fluxbox
You'll probably find Fluxbox in your Linux distribution's software library, but you can also find it on Fluxbox.org. If you are running another desktop, it is safe to install Fluxbox on the same system because Fluxbox does not preset any configuration or accompanying applications.
After installing Fluxbox, log out of your current desktop session so that you can log in to a new desktop session. By default, your desktop session manager (KDM, GDM, LightDM, or XDM, depending on your installation settings) will continue to log in to the previous desktop, so you must overwrite the previous desktop before logging in.
Use GDM to overwrite a desktop:
Select your desktop session in GDM
Or use KDM:
Use KDM to select your desktop session
Configure Fluxbox Desktop
When you log in to the desktop for the first time, the screen is basically empty, because everything Fluxbox provides is panels (for taskbars, system trays, and so on) and window decorations for application windows.
Default Fluxbox configuration on CentOS 7
If your distribution provides a simple Fluxbox desktop, you can use the feh command (you may need to install it from your distribution's software library) to set the background for your desktop. This command has several options for setting the background, including the-bg-fill option to fill the screen with the wallpaper of your choice, the-bg-scale option to scale, and so on.

Apply the Fluxbox of the theme
By default, Fluxbox automatically generates a menu that is available by right-clicking anywhere on the desktop, which gives you access to the application. Depending on your distribution, this menu may be very small, or it may list all the launchers in the / usr/share/applications directory.
The Fluxbox configuration is set in text files, which are contained in the $HOME/.fluxbox directory. You can:
Set keyboard shortcuts in keys
Services and applications started in startup
Set desktop preferences in init (such as number of workspaces, panel location, etc.)
Set menu items in menu
The text configuration file is very easy to infer, but you can (and should) read the Fluxbox documentation.
For example, this is my typical menu (or at least its basic structure):
# to use your own menu, copy the text to ~ / .fluxbox / menu, and then edit # ~ / .fluxbox/init And change the session.menuFile file path to ~ / .fluxbox/menu [begin] (fluxkbox) [submenu] (apps) {} [submenu] (txt) {} [exec] (Emacs 23 (text\)) {x-terminal-emulator-T "Emacs (text)"-e / usr/bin/emacs-nw} [exec] (Emacs (X11\)) {/ usr/bin/emacs} [exec] (LibreOffice) { / usr/bin/libreoffice} [end] [submenu] (code) {} [exec] (qtCreator) {/ usr/bin/qtcreator} [exec] (eclipse) {/ usr/bin/eclipse} [end] [submenu] (graphics) {} [exec] (ksnapshot) {/ usr/bin/ksnapshot} [exec] (gimp) {/ usr/bin/gimp} [exec] (blender) { / usr/bin/blender} [end] [submenu] (files) {} [exec] (dolphin) {/ usr/bin/dolphin} [exec] (konqueror) {/ usr/bin/kfmclient openURL $HOME} [end] [submenu] (network) {} [exec] (firefox) {/ usr/bin/firefox} [exec] (konqueror) {/ usr/bin/konqueror} [end] [end] # # change window manager or working environment [submenu] (environments) {} [restart] (flux) {/ usr/bin/startfluxbox} [restart] (ratpoison) {/ usr/bin/ratpoison} [exec] (openIndiana) {/ home/kenlon/qemu/startSolaris.sh} [config] (config) [submenu] (styles) {} [stylesdir] (/ usr/share/fluxbox/styles) [stylesdir ] (~ / .fluxbox / styles) [end] [workspaces] (workspaces) [reconfig] (reconfigure) [restart] (restart) [exit] (exeunt) [end]
The menu also provides some preference settings, such as the ability to select a topic and restart or log out of a Fluxbox session.
I use keyboard shortcuts to start most applications, which are written to the keys configuration file. Here are some examples (the Mod4 key is the Super key, which I use to specify global shortcuts):
# Open the application Mod4 t: Exec konsoleMod4 k: Exec konquerorMod4 z: Exec fbrunMod4 e: Exec emacsMod4 f: Exec firefoxMod4 x: Exec urxvtMod4 d: Exec dolphinMod4 Q: Exec xscreensaver-command-activateMod4 3: Exec ksnapshot
Between these shortcuts and an open terminal, I rarely use the mouse for most of my workday, so switching from one controller to another is not a waste of time. And because Fluxbox well avoids the method of switching between controllers, there is no interference in the operation.
Why should you use Fluxbox
Fluxbox takes up a very light amount of system resources, but it has important features that make your user experience easy, fast, and efficient. It is easy to customize and allows you to define your own workflow. You don't have to use Fluxbox panels because there are other excellent panels. You can even middle-click and drag two separate application windows into each other so that they become a window, each with its own tab.
