This article will explain in detail how to correctly install and set up KDE Plasma on Arch Linux. The editor thinks it is very practical, so I share it with you for reference. I hope you can get something after reading this article.

How to install and set up the KDE desktop environment on Arch Linux?

Remember, KDE does not allow you to log in directly as root. If you have installed Arch Linux and used it as root, you should create a new user and give it sudo permission to run commands as root.

If you only minimize the installation of Arch Linux, then you may be logged in as a TTY terminal. If you are using another desktop environment, the steps are the same.

Let's get started!

Step 1: create a sudo user (if you only have a root user)

You can use the useradd command to create a new user. The user name I created is dimitrios (this is my first name). You can use something that matches your name.

The option-m creates a home directory for the newly created user.

Useradd-m dimitrios

You should also set a password for this user. Use this command:

Passwd dimitrios

Now that you have created the user, give it sudo permission. First, install sudo and a command-line text editor like nano.

Pacman-S sudo nano

The configuration file for sudo is / etc/sudoers. The file should be edited using visudo, which locks the sudoers file, saves the edits to a temporary file, and checks the syntax of the file before copying it to / etc/sudoers.

To use nano as the visudo editor, set up:

EDITOR=nano visudo

Add the following line as in my example, then save and exit.

Dimitrios ALL= (ALL) ALL

Save your changes and exit the editor. You now have a sudo user on Arch Linux.

Step 2: install the KDE Plasma Desktop

To run the KDE desktop, you need the following software packages.

Xorg group

KDE Plasma desktop environment

Session of Wayland KDE Plasma

The KDE application group (including KDE-specific applications: Dolphin Manager and other useful applications).

You can install the above section with the following command.

Pacman-S xorg plasma plasma-wayland-session kde-applications

After installation, enable the display Manager and Network Manager services.

Systemctl enable sddm.servicesystemctl enable NetworkManager.service

It's almost done. Shut down your system.

Shutdown now

Power on the system again and you should see the login screen for KDE. Do you remember the password set for your sudo users? Use it to log in.

This is the end of the article on "how to correctly install and set up KDE Plasma on Arch Linux". I hope the above content can be of some help to you, so that you can learn more knowledge. if you think the article is good, please share it out for more people to see.
