The Debian project has released its latest stable version, Debian 10, codenamed "Buster", which will be supported for five years. Debian 10 can be used on both 32-bit and 64-bit systems. This release brings many new features, some of which are listed below:

Update Chromium 73.0, Firefox 60.7

Improved UEFI support

In this article, we will demonstrate how to install Debian 10 "Buster" workstations on your laptop and desktop.

Debian 10 recommends that the system requirements:

2 GB memory

2 GHz dual core processor

10 GB available hard disk space

Bootable installation media (USB / DVD)

Network connection (optional)

Let's jump to the installation steps for Debian 10.

Step: 1) download the Debian 10 ISO file

Download the Debian 10 ISO file from its official portal

When the ISO file is downloaded, burn it to USB or DVD to make it available for startup.

Step: 2) use the installation bootable media (USB / DVD) to start your computer system

Restart the computer where you will install Debian 10, go to the BIOS settings, and set the startup media to USB or DVD. After starting the computer with bootable media, we will see the screen below.

Select the first option "Graphical Install".

Step: 3) choose your preferred language, location, and keyboard layout

In this step, you will be asked to choose your preferred language.

Click "Continue".

Choose your preferred location and the computer system will automatically set the time zone according to the location.

Now choose the keyboard layout that is suitable for your installation.

Click "Continue" to continue.

Step: 4) set the host name and domain name for the Debian 10 system

Set the hostname appropriate for your environment, and then click on "Continue". As far as I'm concerned, I specify the hostname as "debian10-buster".

Specify a domain name that is appropriate for your environment, install it, and then click on Continue.

Step: 5) specify the password of the root user

Specify the root password in the following screen, and then click on Continue.

Step: 6) create a local user and its password

In this step, you will be prompted to specify specific local user information, such as full name, user name, and password

Click on Continue.

Click on Continue and specify the password in the next window.

Step: 7) Select a hard disk partition scheme for Debian 10

In this step, choose the hard disk partition scheme for Debian 10. As far as I am concerned, I have a 40 GB hard drive available for operating system installation. There are two types of partitioning schemes:

Wizard partitions (the installer will automatically create the required partitions)

Manual partitioning (as the name suggests, we can manually create a partitioning scheme in this way)

In this tutorial, we will use a wizard partition with LVM on my 42 GB hard drive.

Click on "Continue" to continue

As we can see, I have about 42 GB of hard disk space, so choose "Continue".

In the next screen, you will be asked to select a partition, and if you are a new Linux user, select the first option. If you want a separate home partition, choose the second option, otherwise choose the third option, which will create separate partitions for / home, / var, and / tmp.

As far as I am concerned, I will create separate partitions for / home, / var, and / tmp by selecting the third option.

On the next screen, select "yes" to write the changes to disk, configure LVM, and then click on "Continue".

In the next screen, the partition table is displayed to verify the partition size, file system type, and mount point.

Click on "Continue" to continue

On the next screen, select "yes" to write changes to disk

Click on "Continue" to continue the installation

Step: 7) Debian 10 installation begins

In this step, the installation of Debian 10 has begun and is in progress

During installation, the installer will prompt you to scan CD/DVD to configure the package manager, select "No", and then click on "Continue".

In the next screen, select "yes" if you want to configure the web-based package manager, but in order for this to work, make sure your system is connected to the network, otherwise select "No".

Click on "Continue" to configure your local package manager, in the next few screens, you will be prompted to select the local and Debian package repository URL, and you will get the screen below.

Select No to skip the package review step, and then click on Continue.

In the next window, you will be prompted to select the desktop environment and other software packages. For me, I choose "Gnome Desktop", "SSH Server" and "Standard System utilities".

Click on "Continue" to continue the installation

Select option "yes" to install the Grub boot loader.

Click on "Continue" to continue, and then select the disk (/ dev/sda) on which the boot loader will be installed in the next window.

Click on "Continue" to continue the installation, and once the installation is complete, the installer will prompt us to restart the system

Click on "Continue" to restart your system, and don't forget to change the boot media in the BIOS settings so that the system boots from the hard drive where we have installed the Debian 10 operating system.

Step 8) start your newly installed Debian 10 system

After a successful installation, once we restart the system, we will get the following boot loader screen.

Select the first option "Debian GNU/Linux" and press enter.

Once the system starts, use the local user I created during installation and its password.

After successfully logging in, you will see the following desktop screen

At this point, I believe that everyone on the "Debian10 installation steps" have a deeper understanding, might as well come to the actual operation of it! Here is the website, more related content can enter the relevant channels to inquire, follow us, continue to learn!
