1. Introduction of network protocols:

A collection of rules, standards, or conventions established for the exchange of data in a computer network. For example, a microcomputer user in a network communicates with an operator of a mainframe. Because the two data terminals use different character sets, the commands entered by the operators do not know each other. In order to communicate, it is stipulated that each terminal must first transform the characters of its own character set into the characters of the standard character set before entering the network for transmission, and then transform into the characters of the terminal character set after arriving at the destination terminal. Of course, for incompatible terminals, it is necessary to transform other features in addition to character set characters, such as display format, length, number of lines, screen scrolling mode and so on.

2. How the network protocol works:

Just as we speak in a certain language, there is also a language among the computers on the network, which is the network protocol, and different computers must use the same network protocol to communicate. Network protocol is a collection of communication rules between all devices on the network (network server, computer and switch, router, firewall, etc.). It defines the format of information that must be used in communication and the meaning of these formats.

Most networks adopt a hierarchical architecture, and each layer is built on top of its lower layer, providing certain services to its upper layer, while shielding the details of how to implement this service to the upper layer. The rule for layer n on one device to communicate with layer n on another device is the layer n protocol. There are many protocols in all layers of the network, and the protocols on the same layer between the receiver and the sender must be the same, otherwise one side will not be able to recognize the message sent by the other. Network protocols enable various devices on the network to exchange information with each other.

3. Common network protocols:

TCP/IP protocol is undoubtedly the most important one of the three protocols. As the basic protocol of the Internet, it is impossible to access the Internet without it, and any operation related to the Internet is inseparable from the TCP/IP protocol. However, the TCP/IP protocol is also the most troublesome of the three protocols to configure. It is OK to access the Internet on a stand-alone computer, but if you access the Internet through a local area network, you have to set up IP address, gateway, subnet mask, DNS server and other parameters in detail.

NetBEUI is NetBios Enhanced User Interface, or NetBios enhances the user interface. It is an enhanced version of the NetBIOS protocol and has been adopted by many operating systems, such as Windows for Workgroup, Win 9x series, Windows NT and so on. The NETBEUI protocol is useful in many cases and is the default protocol for pre-WINDOWS98 operating systems. NetBEUI protocol is a short and efficient broadcast protocol, which does not need to be set up after installation, so it is especially suitable for transmitting data in "network neighbors". Therefore, it is suggested that in addition to TCP/IP protocol, computers in small local area networks can also install NetBEUI protocol. It is also important to note that if a WINDOWS98 machine with only the TCP/IP protocol wants to join the win domain, it must also install the NetBEUI protocol.

The IPX/SPX protocol is originally developed by Novell for NetWare networks, but it is not often used-most online games support the IPX/SPX protocol, such as StarCraft, counter-terrorism elites, and so on. Although these games are also available online through the TCP/IP protocol, it is obviously easier to use the IPX/SPX protocol because no setup is required at all. In addition, IPX/SPX protocol does not seem to be very useful in non-local area networks. If you are sure not to play games online in the local area network, then this protocol is optional.
