Shulou(Shulou.com)06/02 Report--
The editor would like to share with you the differences between modems and routers in computers. I hope you will gain something after reading this article. Let's discuss it together.
Difference: routers are network layer devices and modems are physical layer devices. Router routing and forwarding, followed by nat, qos and other functions, is the core of the Internet; the modem converts the signal into a coding format suitable for transmission on the transmission link to facilitate long-distance transmission.
A router (Router, also known as a pathfinder) is a computer network device that can send data packets to a destination through a network (choosing the transmission path of the data), a process called routing. A router is a device that connects more than two separate networks. Routing works at the third layer of the OSI model, that is, the network layer, such as the Internet Protocol (Internet Protocol,IP) layer.
Modem (MODEM) is a kind of communication equipment developed to solve the problem of using analog channel to transmit digital signals. Computers can only process digital signals, and some existing channels can only transmit analog signals. in order to use analog channels to transmit digital signals, the sender must convert digital signals into analog signals. the digital signal to be transmitted is modulated to the carrier, and the carrier signal is an analog signal, which can be transmitted on the analog channel. Then, the receiver carries on the corresponding processing to recover the transmitted digital signal, this process is demodulation. In this way, the purpose of transmitting digital signals on the analog channel is achieved, as shown in figure 1. In practical applications, duplex communication is generally used, so assembling the modulator (MOdulator) and demodulator (DEModulator) together is our commonly used modem (MODEM).
The difference between a modem and a router
The cat is a modem, which is used to surf the Internet through a telephone line (including ADSL broadband and ordinary telephone lines), while a router is used to set up a local area network (including wireless and wired). It can also be used with a cat to reach multiple computers on a telephone line at the same time. It is faster to connect directly to the cat. The speed decline of most wired connections after connecting to the router is negligible, and the speed of wireless is not as fast as that of wired.
Internet cats, also known as modulators, convert and forward signals. The network cable connected to telecom or Netcom at one end is connected to the computer at one end, open the "broadband connection" in the computer, fill in the account number and password given to you by the network provider, and you can surf the Internet.
