Most smart plugs are bricks, so you can plug them into wall-mounted sockets and control them with your phone or voice assistant. But if you are willing to do some simple wiring, you can use some smart plugs instead of existing wall sockets. The new ConnectSense smart wall socket is one of the devices installed directly on the wall, allowing you to turn the plugged device on or off using Siri, Alexa, or Google Assistant. There are now 15-amp and 20-amp versions, which are $79 and $99 respectively.

Since the smart wall socket replaces your existing power outlet, you need to do some simple cabling to install it. For renters or people who lack a neutral line in an old house, this may not be a good choice.

After installation, you can use the ConnectSense application for iOS or Android, or control the socket through the voice control of one of the smart assistants. It fully supports Apple's HomeKit platform, so you can also use Home applications to control it. You can also click the capacitor button on the right side of each socket to turn them on or off.

In addition to various ways to control sockets, smart wall sockets can also measure the power consumption of devices plugged into the socket and provide real-time voltage readings in ConnectSense applications. It connects directly to the 2.4GHz wireless network and works without the need for other hubs or hardware.

It can be used with all three voice assistants, there are relatively few wall sockets to measure power consumption, and it can work without a separate hub. Another major option is the wall outlet for video equipment. The function of this model is similar to that of the ConnectSense version, but the 15-ampere model goes on sale for $89.99 (although a lower price can be found on Amazon).
