There are four ways to monitor DPM

Use the DPM console

Use the central console (SCOM-based)

Use SCOM

There are two ways to generate reports for DPM

Advantages of SCOM-based central management console

A central console is a System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM) console that can be deployed to manage and monitor multiple DPM servers from one location. Provides the following features:

Monitor DPM servers from one location: you can monitor different versions of DPM and track the status and health of servers, tasks, protected resources, tape libraries, available storage space, disk space, and backups.

Alerts based on service level agreement (SLA). Generates an alert when SLA is interrupted.

View the status of all roles on the DPM server

Monitor, identify, operate, and resolve alerts generated when SLA is interrupted. You can consolidate the alerts to be displayed:

Repeat alarm. There is only one instance.

A single alert applies to alerts with the same source, or if multiple backups fail on the same data source

And if the ticket system is used, only one ticket is generated

Remote corrective action and remote recovery

Monitor DPM server memory, CPU, disk resources, databases, and performance trends

Modify and manage settings, including disk allocation, recovery points, users, and protection groups

Recover data

Bandwidth limitation and data Compression of DPM

When the network quality is not good, such as data replication through the WAN link, bandwidth restrictions and data compression functions can be configured on the management interface of the DPM, so as to reasonably optimize the use of the link without affecting the normal operation of other services.
