VMware virtual machines use NAT mode to access the Internet. For your reference, see below
1. Purpose
In my previous blog I shared how to install Windows 7 in a virtual machine, so in this blog I'll share how VMware virtual machines access the Internet using NAT mode.
2. Specific operation
1) I will connect the physical machine to the campus network, the WIFI name is ZZ-TEST-WEB (later renamed KMUST-Auto and KMUST-WEB, experiments can be carried out under these two WIFI networks), to ensure that the physical function is connected to the network normally;
2) Open the VMware virtual machine and enter the pre-installed windows7 system, right-click windows7 x64 (virtual machine name) → Settings, and set the network adapter to NAT mode in Settings, as shown in the following figure:
3) Then you need to view the network environment of the virtual machine. Click Edit → Virtual Network Editor to enter and view the status of VMnet8 NIC, as shown below:
4) Next, you need to open the network and sharing center of Windows 7 in the virtual machine → change the adapter settings and find the local connection, as shown in the following figure:
Right-click the local connection, open Properties →Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and set the properties as shown below:
5) Click OK to complete the operation, the virtual machine should be able to connect to the network between the physical machine, and can access the Internet, open the browser in the virtual machine for testing, you can enter the webpage normally, as shown in the following figure:
6)You can also ping a website under DOS window, such as ping Youku homepage www.youku.com, the result is as follows:
3. Use virtual machine to ping physical machine
1) First, you need to check the IP address of the physical machine in NAT mode. There are two ways:
Method 1: Open the physical machine network and resource sharing center → Change adapter settings, right-click VMnet8→ Status → Details to view the IP address of the physical machine in NAT mode, as shown below:
Method 2: Win+r key to open the run window, enter CMD click Enter to open the DOS command window, and then enter ipconfig/all command and click Enter to get all the current IP configuration of the computer, VMnet8 IP as shown below:
As can be seen from the figure, its IP address is 192.168.164.1;
2) Open the Windows 7 system of the virtual machine, and then open the DOS command window, enter ping 192.168.164.1 to use the virtual machine to ping the physical machine, as shown below:
3) The virtual machine can ping the physical machine, indicating that the physical machine and the virtual machine are on the same network segment, and the network between them is connected. For the operation of using the physical machine to ping the virtual machine,"follow the gourd" can be used.
4. Summary
Having both physical machines and virtual machines connected to the network facilitates many of our operations, from controlling virtual machines from remote desktops in physical machines to file transfers from FileZilla servers and clients.
