One part of the desktop cloud is the thin client. If there is an old computer in the enterprise, it can be transformed into a thin client. Using the open source software thinstation here, the latest version can support a variety of desktop protocols, including Red Hat's spice protocol. The official website address is as follows:
Http://thinstation.github.io/thinstation/ or thinstation.org
The brief introduction of thinstation on the official website is as follows:
ThinStation is a basic and small but powerful open source thin client operating system that supports all major connection protocols: CitrixICA, Redhat Spice, NoMachine NX, 2X ThinClient, Microsoft Windows Terminal Services (RDP, via RDesktop / FreeRDP), VMWare Horizon View, Cendio ThinLinc, Tarantella, X, telnet,tn5250, VMS Terminal and SSH (no special configuration of application server is required to use ThinStation).
The basic idea of making a thin client is as follows: first, you need to download a development image file, iso image, and install it as a development environment for making a thin client. In this development environment, modify the relevant configuration files to adapt to your actual environment. For example, there are all kinds of things that benefit the old hardware environment, such as dell, hp, Lenovo, assembled miscellaneous brand pc, and so on. You can also choose which desktop protocols are supported, such as rdp or spice, ssh, and so on. I believe that there are a lot of people stuck here, only those that are not directly used, need to be customized or developed, are stuck.
Next, download the dev image for installation test, and click download:
Download the image name: TS-6.1.1-Installer-1201.iso, upload it to PVE, create a virtual machine, and install the iso image.
The installation process is not described in detail, note that the installation process needs to be connected to the Internet, and the relevant installation packages need to be downloaded online, because the website is abroad, so the speed will be very slow. If there is an agent, you can set up an agent for scientific access to the Internet, and the speed should be much higher.
I later restored a pve virtual machine from the original backup proxy virtual machine, and after the environment variable was set to http_proxy, the download speed was fast. For specific methods, please refer to my blog: https://blog.51cto.com/yuweibing/2286887, the speed after using the Internet agent is really fast, as follows:
After more than 1 hour of installation, devstation is completed as follows:
Later, disconnect the cd-rom and restart:
Modify the build.conf according to your own needs, and modify the configuration as follows:
As you can see, here is actually the same as redhat's kickstart script, you can choose to install different components and installation packages to customize your thin client. Don't forget to save after the changes are complete.
Next, create an image:
After the image is created, you can click on the build.log log to view the image generation:
The location of the resulting image file is as follows:
Download the image file of raw noodles. I am using smb to share a folder on the local windows machine. As follows:
Then upload it to the iso image installation directory of pve, and build a virtual machine in pve to simulate the thinstation.iso image generated above the TC thin client installation.
Start the TC as follows:
It is found that it goes directly to the system and does not need to be installed, that is, if it is a real environment, you can burn this thinstation.iso file to a USB disk and boot from the USB disk.
Here is to connect to one of my virtual machines using the freeRDP protocol:
Connection successful! At the same time, it also means that the test is successful!
In addition, a single server can be used to build a dhcp server and a tftp server to provide a remote server for the TC thin client to realize diskless startup. The premise is that the network card of the TC thin client supports PXE. The current network cards basically support it. In this part, we will explore how to achieve it later. Services such as dhcp and tftp mentioned above can be provided by installing a pfsense server. I won't go any further here.
