VSphere 7.0 RC has been released and a formal version will be released by the end of the year or early next year. Foreign countries have been able to place orders for vSphere 7.0products, but it seems not to be possible at home at present. Recently, I installed and tested vSphere 7.0in my experimental environment, and I have the following initial impressions.

(1) from the installation point of view, whether it is to install ESXi 7.0or vCenter Server Appliance, it is very similar or the same to vSphere 6.7.You can install it by installing vSphere 6.7.To do so. It is easy to install ESXi on a virtual machine in Workstation or to install ESXi on a physical machine. However, ESXi has given up support for some network cards, if the network cards that can be used normally in ESXi 6.0,6.5,6.7 may no longer be supported in 7.0.

(2) after installing vCenter Server and logging in to vSphere Client, only the version based on HTML 5 is available, and the original vSphere Web Client is no longer available. This can already be seen in vSphere 6.7 U3. Figure 1 is the login interface for vCenter 7. 0.

VCenter Server: only vCenter Server Appliance, Windows version of vCenter Server is no longer available. This situation has already been mentioned in the vSphere 6.7 release notes. VCenter Server 7.0 supports upgrades from 6.5,6.7, and vCenter Server 7.0 needs to be running on ESXi hosts with ESXi version 6.5 or later.

(3) the distributed switch of vSphere 7.0adds the function of NSX distributed port group, as shown in figure 2.

(4) upgrade the vSAN disk format to 11, as shown in figure 3. At vSphere 6.7 U3, the vSAN disk format was upgraded to 10. At vSphere 6.7 U2, the vSAN disk format is 7.

(5) the EVC mode of vSphere 7.0adds Intel Cascade Lake Generation mode, which is supported to Intel Skylake Generation mode at vSphere 6.7, as shown in figure 4.

(6) ESXi 7.0has added support for some devices and abandoned some devices. For example, the 64G FC HBA card that supports Marvell enables Broadcom 100G NIC support. Some NICs on some chips are no longer supported (there is no vSphere 7 compatibility list on the official website). When installing ESXi 7.0, for unsupported network cards, you will be prompted to install ESXi, as shown in figure 5 and figure 6.

When I was doing the experiment, I had several 2-port gigabit network cards and one single-port 10-gigabit network card that could not be supported by ESXi 7.00.When I was doing the experiment, I had several 2-port gigabit network cards and one single-port 10 Gigabit network card. After installing ESXi, you can see the device in "configuring the → hardware → PCI device", as shown in figure 7.

(7) the hardware version of the virtual machine is upgraded to "ESXi 7.0", as shown in figure 8.

(8) the operating system that supports Mac OS X 10.9, as shown in figure 9.
