Linux cluster software LifeKeeper brief introduction is what, many novices are not very clear about this, in order to help you solve this problem, the following editor will explain in detail for you, people with this need can come to learn, I hope you can gain something.
SteelEye Technology recently released a high availability software for enterprises deploying Linux server clusters. The company's LifeKeeper software enables servers in the cluster to replace failed servers or applications. Hardware components and application failures are detected by LAN heartbeat signals (heartbeats). Redundant signals sent between nodes in the cluster enable LifeKeeper to determine the status of the server and then take action. The size of the cluster can range from 2 nodes to 32 nodes.
SteelEye LifeKeeper runs on Windows and Linux. In particular, SteelEye has added support for the IBM Power processor platform and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4. In addition, LifeKeeper for Linux 5 version includes software-based RAID and LifeKeeper Extender.
The software RAID implemented by Linux Multiple Device driver can protect a single hard disk in the same server as well as the hard disk distributed in LAN or storage area network.
LifeKeeper Extender consists of a collection of tools and sample applications that enable users to extend the application of LifeKeeper to the entire infrastructure.
LifeKeeper for Windows runs on a Windows Server 2000 / Server 2003 or NT server. LifeKeeper for Linux runs on SuSE Linux, Red Hat, and TurboLinux operating systems.
At present, similar products on the market include Veritas's Storage Foundation, Microsoft Cluster Services and PolyServe's Matrix Server and so on.
LifeKeeper was originally designed and developed by AT&T Bell Lab to protect its voice network running on Unix-based Star Sever. When AT&T sold the LifeKeeper division to NCR, SteelEye acquired the technology.
LifeKeeper is priced by server, not by quantity of CPU.
