Windows7 Enterprise Edition or Ultimate Edition systems provide encryption functions such as BitLocker and EFS. EFS encrypted objects are individual files or folders in the NTFS partition, while BitLocker encrypted objects are the entire partition. The EFS setting is relatively complex, while the BitLocker setting is relatively simple.

BitLocker encryption technology can support both FAT and NTFS formats, can encrypt the entire system partition of the computer, and can also encrypt portable storage devices, such as USB drives and removable hard drives. BitLocker uses AES (Advanced encryption Standard / Advanced Encryption Standard) 128bit or 256bit encryption algorithm to encrypt, and the security and reliability of its encryption is guaranteed. In general, as long as the user's password is strong enough, this kind of encryption is difficult to crack.

In the local area network, for the convenience of sharing and data backup, a large number of files are stored in the file server, usually the server administrator has absolute administrator rights. Sometimes the file server makes users do not want others to see, including the service administrator, thus questioning the security and confidentiality of the data. This problem can be solved with bitlocker. Although BitLocker does not support folder encryption, a flexible approach can be used to encrypt folders or files.

Overall idea: use the VHD function to create a virtual hard disk in the system and set the virtual disk path on the file server, and then encrypt it with BitLocker. In this way, you can see in the file server that it is just a file with the suffix vdh, and the only way to open this file is to set the password or save the key.

VHD is a virtual disk file of Microsoft Virtual PC. VHD can be created and mounted separately in the Windows system. It is used by:

Right-click "computer" and select "manage". In "computer Management", we click "disk Management" and right-click "create VHD". Click "Browse" here or enter the path of the VHD we want to create, and then fill in the size of the virtual hard disk, which can be determined according to the available space of the hard disk and your own needs, and the rest can be chosen by default. Once determined, the system starts to create a new disk.

Refresh the disk management page and you can see a disk whose property is displayed as "unknown". Right-click the unknown disk and select "initialize disk". The format is determined by default and click. At this point, we can see that the unknown disk has become basic and online.

Right-click the unassigned area, select "New simple Volume", the dialog box appears, and click next until it is complete, showing a new added volume. Here, we have completed the steps of creating a VHD.

At this point, the VHD virtual disk has been created, and we can encrypt it with BitLocker using the method above to encrypt the drive.

Then encrypt the newly created disk with BitLocker, open Explorer, right-click on the disk, select "enable BitLocker", set the password and save the key. BitLocker encryption can also be enabled and managed in "Control Panel"-"Systems and Security"-"Bitlocker Drive encryption".
