This article is about how to install graphics and text for Ubuntu20.04 desktop version. The editor thinks it is very practical, so share it with you as a reference and follow the editor to have a look.
First, prepare tools
VMWare Workstation15 Pro
Ubuntu-20.04-desktop-amd64.iso
II. Initial configuration of virtual machines
1) Select the file → in VMWare Workstation to create a new virtual machine to create a new virtual machine.
2) Select the "Custom (Advanced)" option in the "New Virtual Machine Wizard" that opens, and click next.
3) use the default configuration in "Select Virtual Machine hardware compatibility", and click next.
4) in the "install client operating system" option, select "install operating system later", and click next.
5) in the "Select client operating system" option, select "Linux" for the client operating system and Ubuntu 64-bit for the version (because the Ubuntu20.04 system belongs to the Linux system, 64-bit)
6) on the "named Virtual Machine" page, name the virtual machine you want to create, and specify the location where the virtual machine is stored, and click next.
7) in the "processor configuration" interface, specify the number of processors for the virtual machine and the number of cores per processor
8) in the "memory of this virtual machine" configuration interface, specify the amount of memory available for the virtual machine, which is shared with the memory owned by the host (original operating system), and can be configured according to the actual amount of physical memory owned by the machine.
9) in the "Network Type" configuration interface, you can select the network type owned by the virtual machine Nic, including bridged network, NAT network, Host Only network and no network. The meaning and differences of each network will be explained later. Here you can select the default "use" network address translation (NAT) option.
10) in the option of "selecting the type of LSI Logic O controller", you can specify the type of iUnip O controller used by the virtual machine, which will affect the IO performance of the disk. You can choose both LSI Logic and LSI Logic SAS options. The meaning and differences of each item will be explained later, and the default "LSI Logic" option can be selected here.
11) in the "Select disk type" option, you can specify the interface type of the hard disk owned by the virtual machine. Generally, the recommended SCSI is used by default.
12) in the "Select disk" option, you can specify the type of hard disk used for the virtual machine. If it is a newly created virtual machine, you need to select "create a new virtual disk", which means that the hard disk used by the virtual machine is newly created. Do not use disks previously established for other virtual machines
13) in the "specify disk capacity" option, you can specify the size of the hard disk space owned by the virtual machine, because the hard disk space occupied by the virtual machine comes entirely from the hard disk space of the physical machine where it is located. Therefore, the value entered by "maximum disk size" is the maximum space value of the hard disk owned by the virtual machine, when the first "allocate all disk space now" is not checked. The amount of disk space occupied by the virtual machine depends on the actual use of the current virtual machine hard disk, and the maximum value does not exceed the maximum disk size assigned to the virtual machine. In addition, it is recommended to choose "store the virtual disk as a single file", which is also convenient to move the hard disk of the virtual machine between different locations.
14) in the "specify disk File" option, specify the location where the hard disk files of the virtual machine are stored
15) in the "ready to create virtual machine" option, all the previous configurations for the virtual machine are given for checking the previous configuration. If an error is found in the previous configuration, click "Custom hardware" to change the previous configuration. In addition, you can click "Custom hardware" here. Specify the ISO image file needed to install the system for the virtual machine in the pop-up option box (Ubuntu20.04 system ISO image mentioned in the "preparation" section)
16) after clicking the "Custom hardware" option in step (15), in the pop-up "hardware" configuration box, you can specify the desired Ubuntu20.04 ISO image file in the context menu on the right by clicking the "New CD/DVD (SATA)" option.
17) after selecting the ISO image required for system installation, return to the interface in step (15). Click finish and the virtual machine configuration completion interface appears. If you need to modify the configuration again, click "Edit Virtual Machine Settings" to modify it. If you do not need to modify it, click "Open this Virtual Machine" to install the virtual machine.
III. Ubuntu20.0.4 system installation
1) after the above configuration, you can install the virtual machine by clicking "enable this virtual machine".
2) after clicking "turn on this virtual machine", the system first performs the self-test of installing the image, and you need to wait quietly here.
3) in the pop-up "Welcome" interface, you need to select the system language you want to install and the trial system (Try Ubuntu) or the installation system (Install Ubuntu). You should choose Install Ubuntu here. In addition, it is strongly recommended to select English instead of Chinese, so as to avoid the input of Chinese commands in the folder name after installation.
4) in the "keyboard layout" option interface, you need to specify the keyboard layout format, which is the default here, and it is strongly recommended that you do not change the other configuration, otherwise the keyboard key value after installation does not match the keyboard key order you use.
5) in the "Update and other software" option, it is recommended to uncheck "Download updates while installing Ubuntu". In this way, only the native system will be installed during the installation process, and the system will not be updated on the Internet, which will greatly save the time of installing the system. In addition, it is recommended to select the "Normal installation" option, which will configure the graphical interface for the system. If you select "Mininal installation", it will be the minimum system installation without a graphical interface, which is inconvenient for the desktop system.
6) in the "Installation type" option, you need to specify the operation of the hard disk. If it is installed for the first time, select the first "Erase disk and install Ubuntu", which means erasing the contents of the hard disk and installing the Ubuntu system.
7) in the pop-up "Write the changes to disks" option, the system will be prompted to use the default partition method, which is directly used here. Click Continue.
8) in the process of installation, you will be prompted to select the time zone where the system is located, so as to facilitate the timing operation of the system. You can directly select "Shanghai" in China. Here, you need to click the mouse to select the appropriate location. After clicking, click Continue to continue to the next step.
9) in the "Who are you" configuration interface. The main purpose is to let users specify the user name, machine name and password of the virtual machine system, which can be entered here according to their preferences.
10) at this point, when you officially enter the system installation process, the following screen will appear, indicating that the system installation process is in progress and files are being copied.
11) after the system has been installed, the "Installation Complete" dialog box will pop up, indicating that the system has been installed. Click "Restart Now" to restart the system to enter the installed Ubuntu20.04 virtual machine system.
12) the interface below indicates that the system starts normally. Click on the user name and enter the corresponding password to start the system to enjoy the Ubuntu20.04 system!
Set ip (NAT8). You can view ip if you don't know how to set ip for NAT8.
