The Push-Location cmdlet in Windows PowerShell will create an ordered history ("stack") of the directory paths you have visited, and you can return to the previous location in the directory path history by using the supplementary Pop-Location cmdlet.

First, we put two directories on the stack.

Push-Location-Path "Local Settings"

Push-Location-Path Temp

Then use Get-location to confirm the current directory

PS > Get-Location

Path----C:\ Documents and Settings\ PowerUser\ Local Settings\ Temp

At this point, when we execute Pop-Location, we can see that the path automatically returns to the previous path.

PS > Pop-Location

PS > Get-LocationPath----C:\ Documents and Settings\ me\ Local Settings
