This article mainly introduces how to install RPM files on Fedora Linux. It is very detailed and has certain reference value. Friends who are interested must finish reading it.

Install the RPM file on Fedora and Red Hat Linux

I'll show you three ways to install RPM files:

Use the Software Center to install RPM files (GUI method)

Use the DNF command to install the RPM file (CLI method)

Use the Yum command to install the RPM file (CLI method of Red Hat)

Method 1: use the Software Center

Using the default software center in Fedora is the easiest way. It's really simple. Go to the folder location of the .rpm file you downloaded. It's usually in the "Downloads" folder.

Just double-click the RPM file and it will open in the Software Center.

Alternatively, you can right-click on the RPM file and choose to install it through the Software Center.

Or double-click or right-click and select software installation

When it opens in the Software Center, you should see the "install" option. Just click the "install" button and enter your account password when prompted.

It's simple, isn't it?

Method 2: install the RPM file using the DNF command

This is the command line method. Fedora uses the new dnf package manager, which you can also use to install downloaded RPM files.

Open a terminal and change to the directory where you downloaded the RPM file. You can also take the path to the RPM file. Use the dnf command like this:

Sudo dnf install rpm_file_name

This is a screenshot of me installing Google Chrome on Fedora using the dnf command:

Method 3: use the Yum command to install the RPM file in Red Hat

Unlike Fedora, Red Hat still uses the good old-fashioned Yum package manager. You can't find the dnf command here.

This process is the same as the dnf command. Go to the directory where the RPM file is located or provide its path.

Sudo yum install path_to_RPM_file

okay. There is nothing extraordinarily fancy.

How to remove RPM packages

Removing a RPM package is not a big problem. Also, you don't need the original rpm file used to install the program.

You can find installed packages in the Software Center and remove applications from them.

Remove the RPM package

Alternatively, you can use the dnf or yum command with the remove option.

Using dnf, use this command:

Sudo dnf remove rpm_package_name

Using yum, use this command:

Sudo yum remove rpm_package_name

You may not remember the exact package name, it doesn't matter. All you can do is type the first few letters of the package and then hit the tab button. This assumes that you have enabled tab keystroke completion, which is usually the case.
