Now, the Edge browser has also been updated. Microsoft has released the latest version of Edge 93, which brings blockbuster new features and a new look that is more in line with the Fluent Design design style of Windows 11.

Edge 93 brings a lot of improvements. For example, Edge 93 enables tag group features similar to Chrome browsers, making it easier for users to find tabs, and more efficient for switching and managing tags.

Edge 93 also supports reading and recording of PDF documents, and you can watch videos in picture-in-picture mode through the new toolbar.

When the mouse hovers over the supported video, the toolbar appears, and the user can activate the picture-in-picture function to watch the video in a small window.

Edge 93 also updated the design of vertical tabs. Go to the "edge://settings/appearance" option menu and choose to hide the browser's title bar.

In addition, Microsoft has introduced two important experimental features that have greatly improved the UI of Edge browsers.

The first is to turn on the Mica effect, a unique design language of Win11 that automatically applies the color of the desktop background to the active window.

Currently, Edge 93 can enable the Mica effect in the title bar, as shown in the screenshot below.

The Mica effect also adds Fluent Design-style acrylic translucent visual effects to Edge browser menus. After Win11 enables this feature, it can also automatically adjust the font size of the menu to make the font more eye-catching.

In addition, some buttons are centered, including minimize, maximize, and close buttons.

The second big improvement is the ability to overlay scrollbars, which can be activated in both Win10 and Win11.

Overlay scrollbars are characterized by very thin scrollbars and support for dark mode, which is more consistent with the appearance and interaction of other Win11 applications.

If you want to try these new features, you need to install Edge 93 or later and turn on the experimental option to activate it.

If you want to enable the new scroll bar, you need to add the following code to the target field in the Properties column of the Edge application:

In addition, Microsoft will further introduce new visual designs for Edge browsers in the coming months, and these features may be enabled by default later on.
