Important news in the industry CNCF TOC 2020 election results announced

On February 3, 2020, CNCF held a TOC (Technical Oversight Committee) election and identified five new TOC members, including three nominees and voters from the Governing Board,1 name, nominees and voters from maintainers, and one nominee and voter from the end-user community.

CNCF released its annual report 2019. In 2019, CNCF added 173members, an increase of more than 50%; the number of participants in KubeCon Shanghai, Barcelona and San Diego reached 3500, 7700 and 12000 respectively; six projects (CoreDNS, containerd, Jaeger, Vitness, TUF) entered the graduation stage, three projects (CloudEvents, Falco, OPA) entered the incubation stage, and another 12 projects joined Sandbox. Prospects for Tekton's release in 2020

Tekton is Google's open source cloud native CI/CD system. Tekton released nine versions (0.1.0 to 0.9.2) in 2019, and Tekton Pipeline will release Beta in 2020.

Dry-run on the server side supports more kubectl commands than kubectl apply.

Fix back off when scheduling cycle is delayed

When the pod is unschedulable and the pod backoff time exceeds the maxDuration, the scheduler clears its backoff information, so that other pod with lower priority may have hunger problems. You will now retry 2*maxDuration before emptying the backoff information.

Fix some scheduler metrics (pending_pods and schedule_attempts_total) are not recorded.

Fixed BUG where the pending_pods and schedule_attempts_total metrics of the scheduler were not recorded in v1.17.

Context support in k8s.io/client-go

External context will be supported in client-go to support context timeout/cancel, as well as subsequent distributed tracing mechanisms.

Different workload in a single Kubernetes cluster may have different scheduling requirements, and running multiple scheduler binary to meet different scheduling policies may result in competition (the state in each scheduler may be inconsistent). The KEP tends to run different framework instance in a scheduler binary, each instance uses a different Profile, and each instance shares the same node/pod cache.

Kube-scan is recommended for open source projects

Kube-scan provides security risk ratings for the configuration of Kubernetes workload based on the rule KCCSS (Kubernetes Common Configuration Scoring System).

Permission-manager

Permission-manager is a Kubernetes RBAC management tool developed by SIGHUP that supports creating users, assigning namespace/global-level permissions and distributing kubeconfig. It is easy to configure and provides user-friendly UI.

Kubectx

Kubectx is a tool that can quickly switch kubectl context, which is convenient for operation and maintenance in a multi-cluster environment.
