Dynamic Routing Overview

Dynamic routing is implemented based on a routing protocol

Dynamic routing characteristics

(1) Advantages: Reduced administrative tasks

(2) Disadvantages: occupy the network broadband

A language used by routers to exchange information.

(1) Metrics: hops, bandwidth, load, delay, reliability, cost

Convergence: The process of bringing all routers to a consistent state.

Formation of Routing Table for Dynamic Router

(1) Routers learn direct routes

(2) When the update period is 30s, the router will send the routing table to its neighbors.

(3) After another 30s, the second update cycle arrives and the routing table is sent again.

RIP protocol

(1) RIP metric is hop count, maximum hop count is 15 hops, 16 hops unreachable

(2) RIP update time, routing update message sent every 30s, UDP port 520

(3) RIP routing update message, sending the entire routing table information

Difference between RIP v1 and RIP v2

Follow the topology diagram below to set the router to dynamic routing to allow PC1 and PC2 to interconnect

1. Set the IP address of the PC

2. Set the IP address of each port of R1, R2 and R3.

3. Use RIP protocol to set the router to dynamic routing

4. Test whether PC1 and PC2 are interconnected
