Truphone, a UK-based start-up, provides voice and data services for phones, tablets and IoT hardware through eSIM software integrated directly into the device, and has raised another round of money to continue to expand its business. Today, the company told TechCrunch that it sees Apple as a key partner. It has raised 30 million yuan, valuing Truphone at 410 million yuan ($516 million at current interest rates).

Truphone said it would use the money to continue to invest in software development and network upgrades to "ensure that the business has the ability to further accelerate delivery and support global expansion, particularly in North America and the Asia-Pacific region."

According to the company, about 4 million electronic SIM files are available worldwide, with 20, 000 electronic SIM downloads every day.

Although eSIM technology is considered a way to quickly switch operators without the need for physical replacement of tiny physical cards (and subsequent operator contracts), it is now an interesting data node because we are very focused on technology and transactions and can operate in a contactless manner (thus avoiding new transmissions).

" We are pleased that our investors continue to support us because our development of this technology has been maturing and accelerating. With further support from our investors, the future of Truphone, our partners, customers and a better connected world looks bright.

Truphone did not name the investors, but we have confirmed that most of the money comes from Vollin Holdings and Minden Worldwide--, which are linked to Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich, who also owns Chelsea Football Club.
