This article will explain in detail whether the IBM mainframe supports Windows system services. The content of the article is of high quality, so the editor will share it with you for reference. I hope you will have a certain understanding of the relevant knowledge after reading this article.

Windows hosting services will be integrated into zEnterprise

IBM said it would adjust one of its mainframe platforms by the end of this year to support hosting services on Microsoft's Windows system.

In an article published last week entitled "zEnterprise will support Microsoft Windows," IBM said, "in the fourth quarter of 2011, IBM will select a set of zEnterprise blade server 002 extensions based on IBM x-series systems to provide support for Microsoft Windows."

ZEnterprise is a mainframe product line launched last year, while system x is a management system built by IBM for Windows and Linux's x86 servers. With the help of the powerful scalability of blade servers, x system services can be integrated with the mainframe and managed by the same console.

Wayne Kernochan, an analyst from the Information structure Association, said he reflected IBM's determination to enter this new area in his article entitled "IBM 2011 New system z: supporting Windows to become Big News."

This is not a complete integration system between Windows systems and mainframes, but the hallmark of taking this step is more important, he wrote. He points out that the integration of Windows systems and mainframes on server platforms has always been difficult, partly because of technology, and partly because IBM and Microsoft seem to think that "users don't really care much about it."

"IBM's roadmap does not include full support for application-level management and load balancing of the Windows platform," Kernochan wrote. "the completion of the plan to fully integrate the Windows platform on private cloud hosts does not exist in the development plan, and this goal may never be achieved."

However, he added, "this does not mean that IBM's plan to enable its zEnterprise to support Windows systems is incomplete. Instead, IBM is taking advantage of its consistent strong combination of strong technology and sophisticated services to provide users with a solution to run Windows on their x-system blades and integrate it into zEnterprise as a whole."

Kernocahn also talked about the value of integrating Windows,Linux and IBM's z operating system into the host operating system.

"if we can simulate the Windows system well enough on Linux or Linux-enabled blade servers, we will be able to support most applications in Windows environments at the same time when it is necessary to increase the server size (Unix/Linux and / or host)," he wrote.

Third-party vendors will launch tools to match Windows virtual machines "only as another set of systems for backup / recovery, monitoring, managing load balancing and creating distributed applications," Kernochan wrote. Such tools may not be available in 2011, but "despite the limitations, IBM promises that support for Windows systems will immediately have a positive impact on server applications in many organizations," he wrote.

IBM said in an announcement that the x system based on Linux architecture will be available in zEnterprise in the third quarter of 2011. At the beginning of designing this system, IBM did not consider adding support for the Windows platform, but according to the feedback of customers, they changed their design ideas.

"IBM has been trying to make system x more responsive in terms of functionality, and our customers do ask us to support Microsoft Windows," IBM said.

On whether the IBM mainframe supports Windows system services is shared here, I hope that the above content can be of some help to you, can learn more knowledge. If you think the article is good, you can share it for more people to see.
