The variety of jumper and tail fiber is very rich, it is worth noting that optical fiber tail fiber and jumper are not the same concept. The main difference between the optical fiber jumper and the optical fiber tail is that only one end of the optical fiber tail has an active connector, and both sections of the jumper have an active connector. To put it simply, dividing the jumper into two can be used as a tail fiber. The following is easy Skylight communication to introduce their differences in detail.

What is the jumper and tail fiber?

The jumper is a cable directly connected to the desktop computer or equipment to facilitate the connection and management of the equipment. The jumper has a thick protective layer and is often used between the terminal box and the optical terminal.

Only one end of the tail fiber has a connector, and the other end is an optical fiber connector, which is connected with other optical cable cores in the form of fusion, which generally appears in the optical fiber terminal box.

2. Types of optical fiber jumpers

Optical fiber jumper is divided into single-mode optical fiber jumper and multimode optical fiber jumper in data transmission equipment, single-mode optical fiber jumper is generally yellow, joint and protective cover are blue, wavelength is 1310nm/1550nm, transmission distance is 10km/40km, transmission distance is long; multimode optical fiber jumper: generally orange or lake blue, joint and protective cover are beige or black, wavelength is 850nm, transmission distance is 500m, transmission distance is short.

Optical fiber jumpers can be divided into the following types according to the type of connector:

① LC optical fiber jumper: square connector, made of easy-to-operate modular Jack (RJ) latch mechanism, is a connector to connect SFP optical modules, often used in routers.

② SC optical fiber jumper: rectangular connector, using plug-and-pull latch fastening mode, is the connector to connect GBIC optical module, commonly used in routers and switches.

③ St type optical fiber jumper: round head connector, fastened with screws, commonly used on optical fiber distribution frame.

④ FC type optical fiber jumper: round optical fiber connector, external metal material, also using screw fastening, generally used on the ODF side.

⑤ MPO optical fiber jumper: composed of two high-precision plastic-molded connectors and optical cables, it adopts miniaturized design and stable and reliable connection with high density.

⑥ MTP type optical fiber jumper: optical fiber jumper with many cores and small size, used in high-density integrated optical fiber line environment.

III. Types of tail fiber

Like optical fiber jumper, the tail fiber is divided into single-mode tail fiber and multi-mode tail fiber according to the fiber type, the outer jacket of single-mode tail fiber is yellow, the wavelength is 1310nm/1550nm, the transmission distance can reach 10km/40km, for long-distance connection; the outer jacket of multi-mode tail fiber is orange / lake blue, the wavelength is 850nm, and the transmission distance is 500m, which is used for short-distance connection. There are many types of optical fiber jumper and tail fiber provided by easy Sky Communication ETU-LINK.

According to the type of connector, tail fiber can be divided into the following types:

① LC tail fiber connector: the size of pin and sleeve of LC tail fiber connector is half of that of the above two connectors, which improves the space utilization of optical distribution frame. It is made of modular Jack (RJ) latch principle which is easy to operate.

② SC tail fiber connector: it is made of engineering plastic, the price is cheap, and the shell is in a rectangular shape. the pin of the docking end face is mostly ground by PC or APC type, and the fixed mode is plug latch type, which is easy to operate and not easy to oxidize.

③ St type tail fiber connector: different from SC type tail fiber connector, the core of St type tail fiber connector is exposed while the core of SC type tail fiber connector is in the joint. St type tail fiber connector is usually used in 10Mbps Ethernet system and SC type tail fiber connector is used in 10Mbps Ethernet system.

④ FC tail fiber connector: also known as circular threaded joint, the use of metal material, good durability, often used on the distribution frame.

IV. Application of jumper and tail fiber

The jumper is mainly used for the connection between the optical fiber distribution frame or optical fiber information socket to the switch, the connection between the switch and the switch, the connection between the switch and the desktop computer, and the connection between the optical fiber information socket and the desktop computer. It can be used in management, inter-device and work area subsystems.

Tail fiber is mainly used in optical fiber communication system, optical fiber access network, optical fiber data transmission, optical fiber CATV, local area network (LAN), test equipment, optical fiber sensor, serial server, FTTH/FTTX, telecommunication network and pre-termination installation.

Matters needing attention of jumper and tail fiber

The wavelength of the optical module connected by ① jumper must be the same. In general, short-wave optical module with multi-mode jumper and long-wave optical module with single-mode jumper to ensure the accuracy of data transmission.

The ② jumper reduces the winding as much as possible in the wiring process, which can reduce the attenuation of the optical signal in the transmission process.

The connector of the ③ jumper should be kept clean and sealed with a protective sleeve after use to prevent oil and dust from entering. If there is a stain, apply a cotton swab to clean it with alcohol.

④ tail fiber is relatively slender, the cross section of the tail fiber is 8 degrees angle, not resistant to high temperature, more than 100 ℃ will be damaged, so it is necessary to avoid using in high temperature environment.

Optical fiber connector is an important part of optical fiber communication. in the aspect of data transmission, the quality of core insertion and the technology and method of production all determine the stability of data transmission.
