Shulou(Shulou.com)06/03 Report--
VMware Workstation is a kind of virtual machine software that we often use, which has powerful function and good performance. Most users create virtual machines in the graphical interface, modify virtual machine configurations, add virtual machine parameters, or use the Clone feature to create multiple virtual machines, all of which need not be introduced.
But did it ever occur to you
Does ● use the virtual machine created by VMware Workstation for use by other users on the network?
● if you want to use templates to create dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of virtual machines, how can you do that?
This section introduces these applications through two specific cases.

1. Connect virtual machines using Workstation through VNC
For friends who often do training, if the computer configuration can not meet the requirements, as long as there is a high-configuration computer in the network, you can use VMware Workstation's "VNC connection" function to provide experimental machines for low-grade workstations and let low-grade computers "borrow" the idle resources of high-configuration computers. This section introduces this feature through specific examples. The idea is as follows (An is a high configuration computer, B low configuration computer):
1. If it is the experiment of installing the operating system, on computer A, create several new virtual machines, enable the "VNC connection" function and set the password. After starting these virtual machines, computer B can use WinVNC, connect the IP address of An and the remote display port, and can "see" and operate the virtual machine provided by A to complete the relevant experiments.
two。 If it is the configuration of the application software, then on computer A, the virtual machine that has installed the operating system will use the "clone" method to create multiple copies, enable "VNC connection", set the password, and then start the cloned virtual machine. B uses WinVNC to connect A's IP address and the port specified when VNC connection is enabled, and uses the virtual machine provided by A.
3. When using this function, configure the required CD images, software packages and so on in the virtual machine of A machine.
Here are two examples to show the detailed steps.
1.1 operating system installation experiment
The installation experiment of Windows 10 operating system shows that A machine provides virtual machines for A, B1, B2 and B3, and the Windows 10 CD image is saved in the D disk tools directory with the file name:
Cn_windows_10_multiple_editions_version_1607_updated_jul_2016_x86_dvd_9060050.iso
The IP address of A machine is 192.168.0.33. B1, B2, B3 can access A machine.
The operation in machine An is as follows:
(1) create a new virtual machine in VMware Workstation, select "Windows 10" for the virtual machine operating system, set the name of the virtual machine to Windows 10, allocate 2 CPU, 2GB memory (depending on the configuration of the host and the number of virtual machines to be started at the same time), and save the hard disk space 60GB in the C:\ VMS\ Windows 10 directory, as shown in figure 5-2-1.
Figure 5-2-1 New Windows 10 virtual machine
(2) modify the configuration of the virtual machine, in the "hardware → CD/DVD" option, select "use ISO image file" and select the installation ISO file of Windows 10 (as shown in figure 5-2-2). Then click in "options → VNC connection" to select "enable VNC connection", the password is empty, the port uses the default value of 5900, and then click the "OK" button to complete the setting, as shown in figure 5-2-3.
Figure 5-2-2 load ISO file figure 5-2-3 enable VNC connection
(3) return to VMware Workstation, open Snapshot Manager, clone from the current state in the virtual machine, select "create full clone" as shown in figure 5-2-4, and the name of the new virtual machine is Win10-01, as shown in figure 5-2-5.
Figure 5-2-4 complete clone figure 5-2-5 new virtual machine name
(4) then, according to the need, many virtual machines are cloned and named according to the unified rules. For example, the name of the second cloned virtual machine is Win10-02.
(5) return to VMware Workstation and currently clone 2 virtual machines.
(6) Edit the configuration of the newly cloned Win10-01 and Win10-02 virtual machines respectively. In "option → VNC connection", set the port of Win10-01 to 5901 (of course, you can also set other ports, as long as they do not conflict with other virtual machines and service ports on the current computer, as shown in figure 5-2-8. Then set the port of Win10-02 to 5902, as shown in figure 5-2-9. If there are other virtual machines, you need to modify the VNC connection ports one by one.
Figure 5-2-8 sets port to 5901. Figure 5-2-9 sets port to 5902.
(7) then start the Win10-01 and Win10-02 virtual machines respectively. If the "Windows Security Alert" appears, click the "allow access" button.
Open the Advanced Security Windows Firewall in the Administrative tools, create a new inbound rule, allow the TCP protocol, and specify a local port of 5900-5999 (corresponding to the ports to be used by figures 5-2-8, 5-2-9, and other virtual machines), as shown in figure 5-2-11.
Figure 5-2-11 create inbound rules
Then switch to the client computers, install VNC Viewer on those client computers, and enter the IP address of the remote VMware Workstation computer and the corresponding virtual machine port number in the address bar.
For example, to connect to the Win10-02 virtual machine, enter the specified port 5902. In this example, if the IP address of the remote computer is 192.168.0.33, enter 192.168.0.33 Don't warm me about this again on this computer 5902. After pressing the enter key, the "enter" warning dialog box pops up, and select "Don't warm me about this again on this computer." And click the Continue button to continue, as shown in figure 5-2-12.

You can then see the running virtual machine, where you can do the experiment, as shown in figure 5-2-13.

Other client computers can connect to other virtual machines, which are not covered.
[description] enabling "VNC connection" in VMware Workstation is essentially different from enabling "remote Desktop" after entering the operating system.
In the "VNC connection" function can be more "low-level", for example, you can enter the virtual machine BIOS settings, partition, format, install the operating system, while the "remote Desktop" requires the operating system installed and configured correctly to operate, once the operating system can not boot or network failure, the "remote Desktop" function will not be used.
1.2 create multiple virtual machines using linked clones for use by other users
The previous section described the creation of multiple "new" virtual machines for other users to install the operating system for use. If you need to use a configured virtual machine, you can use the Link feature to create multiple virtual machines for use by multiple users.
For example, machine An already has installed Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (referred to as RHEL 5). Machine A provides installed Linux of RHEL 5 for A, B1, B2 and B3 to do experiments.
1. On machine A, select the virtual machine with Linux installed, shut down the virtual machine, and create a snapshot. Then clone the virtual machine from this snapshot, select create linked Clone in Clone Type, and set the new virtual machine name to RHES5-01. Then create multiple "clone linked" virtual machines as needed.
two。 Return to VMware Workstation, edit the configuration of the RHES5-01 virtual machine, and set the port to 5911 in options → VNC connection. Then modify the VNC connection ports of other cloned virtual machines as needed. Then start the power to the virtual machine.
Switch to the client computers, install VNC Viewer on those client computers, and enter the IP address of the remote VMware Workstation computer and the corresponding virtual machine port number in the address bar, for example, to connect to the RHES5-01 virtual machine, enter the specified port 5911.
In this example, if the IP address of the remote computer is 192.168.0.33, enter 192.168.0.33 IP 5911. You can then see the running virtual machine, where you can do the experiment, as shown in figure 5-2-19.
