Recently, the 2018 Huawei full connection Conference with the theme of "+ Intelligence, see the Future" was successfully held. As one of Huawei's important strategic partners, Intel was invited to participate in the conference. During the conference, du Weiyang, director of Intel's data center division, network platform department and global market development, was interviewed by IT168 to share the cooperation and practice cases between Intel and Huawei in the field of SD-WAN.

2018 is the first year of SD-WAN

Software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN), as an important expenditure of software-defined network, is a hot field of SDN technology application. SD-WAN can run secure virtualized WAN connections between enterprise branch offices, data centers, and the Internet in a more cost-effective and simple way.

Some people say that 2018 will be the first year of SD-WAN. Du Weiyang agrees with this very much, explaining: "from concept to implementation, the whole time window of SD-WAN is shorter than that of NFV. SD-WAN brings advantages such as high performance-to-price ratio and extensive coverage, attracting more and more enterprises to deploy. Compared with previous years, this year happens to have a complete maturity and acceptance of the entire industry chain."

In the future, the SD-WAN market will be greatly expanded. Du Weiyang said, "first, use SD-WAN technology to reduce network bandwidth and operating costs, and make the network intelligent; then discuss how to generate value-added services on the platform; finally, realize the deep integration of AI and SD-WAN."

FusionSphere solution is the grand finale.

During the conference, Huawei released FusionSphere for NFVI's Intel Select solution to accelerate the construction of an efficient agile network. In response, du Weiyang pointed out, "according to the difference in performance, Intel's selected solutions are divided into basic version and enhanced version. The underlying server is Intel's strong point, and the CPU model and other components are also carefully selected."

The solution is aimed at workload-optimized data centers, simplifying and accelerating the selection and deployment of software and hardware to support a wide range of complex workloads and applications. On the premise of ensuring openness and compatibility, realize the virtualization of all kinds of software and hardware resources in the data center, and provide unified resource management and scheduling capabilities, and realize the service of NFV infrastructure.

"We believe in Huawei's success stories in the market and can learn from them," du Weiyang said. "before the arrival of 5G, focus on the big network to better help other operators speed up the pace of NFVI."

Why did Intel join forces with Huawei?

All enterprises that become bigger and stronger all have such a characteristic-accurate vision. Du Weiyang said that Huawei is a relatively unique company, and the reason why it chose to cooperate with Huawei is mainly focused on its several advantages:

First, Huawei can effectively use Intel chips to design efficient platforms.

Second, Huawei itself was born on the Internet. In the network field, Intel and Huawei can learn from each other and promote each other.

Third, Huawei has perfect operator channel and enterprise channel.

With regard to the cooperation with Huawei in the field of SD-WAN, du Weiyang revealed, "the cooperation includes many parts, mainly infrastructure and software. We work specifically with operators to set up the early SD-WAN solution and open mind to work with partners to build an ecosystem."

In the entire SD-WAN field, Intel's role has always been to help customers lower the technical threshold, simplify the complex underlying platform, and provide them with a faster shortcut. Du Weiyang pointed out: "We pull the industry to do development on the general platform of the industrial chain to help them do tuning, which is what we are good at."
