Prior to the second edition of Windows 98, the pre-installation of the Windows system was done through DOS.

I believe that as long as friends who installed the first version of the system Windows 98 at that time still remember the scene of making a boot disk in Windows 98 and then putting it on a new computer to start the computer, they will still remember commands such as Fdisk,Format,Setup.exe.

2. Windows 98 second Edition, Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows XP,Windows Server 2003

From the second edition of Windows 98 to Windows Server 2008, the pre-installation process does not require a DOS system, using a CD-ROM boot system customized by Microsoft, which is more friendly and simple than DOS. It is from this time that many friends come into contact with and use computers, and I will not introduce the specific guide in detail, because all people are very familiar with it.

3.Windows Vista,Windows Server 2008 (R2), Windows 7

Microsoft has adopted a more friendly approach since windows Vista, using Windows PE as a pre-installation process for Microsoft systems. In this system, the interface is more beautiful and friendly, directly support the mouse click, the wizard is also very simple, so it is more convenient for users to install the Windows operating system.

System files before Windows Vista are stored in the i386 folder, but with Windows Vista, there are no i386 files on the CD. Many friends will ask where these system files are stored:

In the Sources folder of the Windows 7 CD, there are two WIM files, Boot.wim and Install.wim

Boot.wim---- is mainly responsible for starting the computer and doing some pre-installation configuration. The preparation for the pre-installation of Windows 7 is responsible for the Boot.wim file.

Install.wim- stores the system files of Windows 7, similar to the data of windows XP's i386 folder.

two。 Windows system installation

This stage is mainly responsible for the copy of windows system files, system installation and registration, etc., and completes the installation of the system at this stage.

1. Windows 98 first Edition

Use the i386 folder on the CD to complete the installation.

2. Windows 98 second Edition-Windows Server 2003

Use the i386 folder on the CD to complete the installation.

3. Windows Vista,Windows Server 2008 (R2), Windows 7

Call Install.wim to complete the system installation.
