Shulou(Shulou.com)06/02 Report--

Database availability groups (DAG) are the basic components of the high availability and site recovery framework built into Microsoft Exchange Server. DAG is a set of Mailbox servers (up to 16 Mailbox servers) that hosts a set of databases that provide the ability to automate database-level recovery from failures that affect a single server or database. DAG is the boundary for mailbox database replication, database and server switchover, failover, and an internal Exchange component called activity Manager. The activity Manager runs on each server in DAG and is used to manage switchover and failover. Any server in DAG can host a copy of the mailbox database from any other server in DAG. When a server is added to DAG, it works with other servers in DAG to provide automatic recovery from failures that affect mailbox databases, such as disk failures or server failures. For more information about DAG, please refer to the following link:

Let's start our deployment today.

First, we create an A record of DAG in DNS, which is mainly used for later configuration of DAG, whose name and IP are unique. Open DNS, expand the forward lookup area, navigate to the domain name, and right-select New A record.

Enter a name and IP, and then click add Host

Add completed

Open IE, enter NLB or the FQDN of the front-end server, and enter the Exchange management interface (ECP)

Enter the account number to log in

Navigate to the server-database availability group, and then click New

Enter the name of DAG, witness server and witness directory. Here my witness server chooses ExchCas01, add the IP address of the database availability group, and click Save.

Establish successfully, we select DAG, and then click manage membership

Add two member servers and click Save

Add finished, click close

To switch to the database, we click New

Enter the name of the database and select the server that hosts the database. The file path and log path can be modified according to your own environment. In the production environment, it is recommended to put these two folders on another disk, and click Save.

Add is complete, and then restart the information storage service as prompted

Open the service, find the information storage service, right-click and select restart

Now that this database is only hosted on ExchMbx01, we need to add another specified mailbox server so that the database has the same data files on both servers. Only in this way can we really achieve what we call high availability to prevent a single point of failure.

Select the database we just created, and then click New Database copy

We choose ExchMbx02 for mailbox server and click Save.

The operation completed successfully. Click close.

Now we can see that Mbx01 and Mbx02 have both copies

At this point, the deployment of DAG has been completed.
