Atx chassis how to understand, many novices are not very clear about this, in order to help you solve this problem, the following editor will explain in detail for you, people with this need can come to learn, I hope you can gain something.

An atx chassis refers to a chassis made using ATX specifications. The English full name of atx is AT Extended, which is a standard structure of PC (extended AT structure), that is, ATX motherboard standard, and the chassis derived from ATX specification is also called ATX chassis.

The operating environment of this tutorial: windows7 system, Dell G3 computer.

An atx chassis refers to a chassis made using ATX specifications.

The full name of ATX is AT Extended in English. Due to the non-standard of Baby AT motherboard market and the obsolete structure of AT motherboard, Intel issued a standard structure of PC in 1995-extended AT structure, that is, ATX motherboard standard, and the chassis derived under ATX specification is also called ATX chassis.

Compared with the Baby/Mini-AT structure, the layout of the ATX has made considerable changes: the Baby-AT adopts the horizontal structure of the chassis, and the Icano interface is located on the narrow side of the motherboard (24.4cm), while the ATX changes the chassis into a vertical structure, and uniformly transfers the Igamot O interface to the wide side (30.5cm) and makes it into the form of "backplane".

In addition, ATX also stipulates that the hot air of the CPU radiator must be discharged, which not only enhances the heat dissipation, but also reduces the dust accumulation in the chassis.

Based on the ATX specification, several specifications such as ATX, Micro ATX, NLX, WTX, MiniATX and Flex-ATX are derived. The chassis sold on the market are mainly ATX and Micro ATX chassis.

Micro ATX chassis is small in size and limited in scalability, so it is only suitable for users who do not require high computer performance, while ATX chassis is much better than Micro ATX chassis in terms of heat dissipation and performance expansion, and ATX is still the mainstream of the market.

Chassis benefit

First, when the card is longer than the chassis, other components will not contact it.

Second, the peripheral cable and hard disk cable are shortened to bring them closer to the hard drive.

Third, the CPU fan and the power supply fan are combined to optimize the heat dissipation system.

Compatible motherboard

A chassis of one structure can only install one corresponding motherboard, but if the chassis is backward compatible, then the chassis of one structure can match more than one motherboard. For example, the ATX chassis is backward compatible with the MicroATX chassis, so the MicroATX motherboard can also be installed on the ATX chassis.

The ATX standard motherboard design specification is 12 inches wide (305mm) and 9.6 inches high (244mm). With further optimization of the motherboard design, the motherboard size can be reduced to 11.2 inches (284mm) * 8.2 inches (208mm) of Micro-ATX. Therefore, the selection of ATX chassis can choose the above two specifications of the motherboard for assembly.
