This article introduces how to achieve low power consumption in NB-IoT. The content is very detailed. Interested friends can use it for reference. I hope it will be helpful to you.

How is the low power consumption of NB-IoT realized?

One of the main reasons why NB-IoT can achieve low power consumption is that the user terminal of NB-IoT equipment can still work in power-saving mode, which can greatly reduce power consumption and prolong battery life. The shutdown state of the user terminal working in power-saving mode is similar to that of the device, which seems to have lost contact with the network on the surface, but the user terminal is still registered in the network and there is no need to reattach or re-establish the packet data network connection.

The energy consumed by communication equipment is often related to the amount of data transmitted and the communication rate, that is to say, the size of data packets per unit time determines the power consumption of the equipment. If the amount of data transmitted is small, the user equipment can be adjusted to a very small level to the demodulator and power amplifier (Power Amplifier,PA). NB-IoT focuses on the application scenarios of large transmission interval, small amount of data, low rate and insensitive to delay, so the power consumption of NB-IoT devices can be very small.

NB-IoT is optimized on the basis of discontinuous reception (Discontinuous Reception,DRX) of LTE system, using two modes: power saving mode (Power Saving Mode,PSM) and enhanced discontinuous reception (Enhanced Discontinuous Reception,eDRX). These two modes are determined by the user terminal initiating the request and the mobility management entity (Mobility Management Entity,MME) core network negotiation. Users can use either PSM and eDRX power saving modes alone, or they can choose to activate both.

The low power consumption of devices has always been an important standard in the application industry of the Internet of things, especially in some devices or occasions where it is not convenient to change batteries often. for example, a wide range of sensor monitoring devices scattered around, which determines that they can not be charged once or even several times a day like our daily mobile phones. Therefore, the battery life of up to several years is the most basic requirement for equipment or technology. Under the premise that the battery technology can not make a breakthrough, it is also a good idea to prolong the battery power supply by reducing the power consumption of the equipment.

On how to achieve low power consumption in NB-IoT to share here, I hope the above content can be of some help to you, can learn more knowledge. If you think the article is good, you can share it for more people to see.
