Microsoft announced the retirement of several Windows 10 versions and completely ended its support for Windows Embedded POSReady 2009, an embedded system based on Windows XP SP3 and a derivative of Windows XP.

Windows Embedded POSReady 2009, released on December 9, 2008, is an embedded operating system designed and optimized by Microsoft for service point (POS) applications. It is widely used in cash registers, kiosks, electronic signs, ATM machines, tankers and other devices.

It can seamlessly connect with peripherals, servers and services, has the advantages of flexible customized deployment, seamless network and peripheral connectivity, consistent reliability, familiarity with user experience, and can run with only 64MB memory and 480MB hard disk space.

Mainstream technical support for the system ended on April 8, 2014, and today is the end of extended technical support, that is, completely abandoned, and Microsoft no longer provides any services.

Before it, there was a Windows XP SP2-based Windows Embedded for Point of Service (WEPOS), followed by Windows Embedded POSReady 7, Windows Embedded 8 Industry, Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry, and Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, which I'm sure you can see in their respective kernels.

In terms of Windows 10, the v1709 fall 2017 update ends today, including home, professional, educational and enterprise editions for another year.

The educational version and enterprise version of the v1607 anniversary update ended today, while the family version and professional version ended a year ago.

The next to retire is the April 2018 update of v1803, which will launch a batch of patches in November this year.

Microsoft recommends that these users upgrade to v1809 as soon as possible, and of course the next version, v1903, will be launched next month.
