According to Counterpoint Research, only a few cities in the United States received 5G signals, and 5G handset sales in May (the latest figures) were sold in more than 10 markets. Tom Kang, director of research at Counterpoint, said sales of 5G phones were so common that it was impossible to predict a concentrated market. Research analyst Maurice Klein (Maurice Klaehne) points out that many consumers are buying 5G phones because they are expected to cover their areas. On the other hand, last week, T-Mobile and Qualcomm announced that 5G data calls were successfully implemented for the first time through the carrier's low-frequency 600MHz spectrum. T-Mobile believes that if it can be merged with Sprint, it will be able to deploy the latter's intermediate frequency 2.5GHz radio waves and its own 600MHz spectrum and millimeter wave radio waves. T-Mobile said this would enable it to build its first national 5G network in the US. As part of the deal, it won approval from FCC for its proposed merger with Sprint, with T-Mobile promising to cover 97 per cent of rural areas in the US (85 per cent of rural areas), low 5G coverage and intermediate frequency coverage for more than 75 per cent of the US population. It also promised to freeze prices for three years after the deal was completed.

The top 10 cities accounted for only 1/3 of 5G smartphone sales in May.
