Today, I will introduce to you the functions that DMaaS does not have when providing DCIM. The content of the article is good. Now I would like to share it with you. Friends who feel in need can understand it. I hope it will be helpful to you. Let's read it along with the editor's ideas.

Data Center Management as a Service (DMaaS) is a cloud-based remote monitoring service that aggregates and analyzes large amounts of anonymous customer data to help enterprises better predict device failures or capacity deficiencies and detect inefficiencies.

Downtime in the data center is very dangerous and costly for enterprises. It is easy to see the attractiveness of tools that provide visibility into data center assets, interdependencies, performance, and capacity, and translate this visibility into operational knowledge of predictable equipment failures or insufficient capacity.

The data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) tool is designed to monitor the utilization and energy consumption of IT and building components-from servers and storage to power distribution to refrigeration.

DCIM software has the functions of remote equipment monitoring, power and environmental monitoring, IT asset management, data management and reporting. Companies can use DCIM software to simplify capacity planning and resource allocation and ensure the most efficient use of electricity, equipment and footprint.

What is DMaaS?

Data Center Management as a Service (DMaaS) is a service based on DCIM software. But it's not just a SaaS-delivered version of DCIM software. DMaaS enables data collection, please climb to another high-rise: collect equipment data from dozens of data centers, and then anonymously, aggregate and analyze it on a large scale.

DMaS may change the way data centers are managed and operated, said Rhonda Ascierto, director of data center technology and eco-efficiency IT channel research at 451 Research.

"DMaaS integrates and analyzes large amounts of anonymous customer data, which can be enhanced through machine learning," said Ascierto. "A key goal is to predict and prevent accidents and failures in data center infrastructure and to detect inefficiency or insufficient capacity." Schneider Electric (Schneider Electric) and Eaton (Eaton) are the early manufacturers to enter the DMaaS market. Both manufacturers have mined large amounts of data based on their years of experience in data centers, including the design and construction of data centers, building management, power distribution, and power and cooling services.

Getting this data from a large number of customers through a variety of operating environments is the true value of DMaaS, allowing companies to compare their data center performance with global benchmarks. For example, Schneider's product, called EcoStruxureITDMaaS, is associated with a lake of data containing benchmark data from more than 500 customers and 2.2 million sensors.

"the core of DMaaS's value-- and what makes it superior to internally deployed DCIM and SaaS-delivered DCIM, is that it aggregates anonymous data and uses machine learning, anomaly detection, and event stream playback to run big data statistical analysis," said Ascierto.

The more data is collected from different types of data centers and the more data is analyzed, the smarter DMaaS will be, she says. Having a large amount of data on the performance of a particular device in a particular environment-temperature, humidity, air pressure-allows DMaaS suppliers to more accurately predict when the equipment fails, or when the cooling threshold is reached.

DCIM and DMaaS

Since the emergence of DCIM, the software has been underdelivered and overhyped. It is difficult to deploy and cannot determine the return on investment.

"DCIM can reduce risk while achieving new benefits, better capacity forecasting and improved business agility," said Ascierto. "but it is still an underdeployed technology due to a series of difficulties-such as implementing operational changes to support DCIM and the difficulty of measuring overall return on investment. DMaaS is committed to alleviating these difficulties and expanding the value of DCIM."

When the computing environment is distributed between traditional on-premises data centers, cloud and managed sites, and edge computing applications, the management of the data center becomes more tricky. The traditional DCIM model requires software to be installed at every data center site, which can be challenging when people try to compare performance in various environments. DMaaS is a cloud-based remote monitoring service designed to support a variety of deployment sites.

Limitations of DMaaS

Still, DMaaS still has a long way to go if it is to realize its potential. Ascierto said that DMaaS's long-term goal is to integrate physical data center infrastructure management with many other services, including IT workload management, energy management, connectivity and business costing. But it will take time to achieve these goals.

"the DMaaS is not as broad as the 'traditional' DCIM, but we expect it to evolve over time," she said. DMaaS takes the data center beyond DCIM and beyond the proprietary management of a single site. Eventually, it may add other data and services, including integrated workload management, energy management, customer relations and business systems, weather, employee services, and security and network management. "

Choosing between local DCIM and cloud-based DMaaS is not a clear decision. Ascierto said it might make sense to retain some DCIM monitoring capabilities for security and latency reasons. For example, shuttling data to and from a centralized cloud facility is not practical for time-limited monitoring and alerting. On the other hand, forecasting is not essential for daily operations, and it makes sense to carry out predictions in different places.
