This is because the system:java.io.tmpdir attribute needs to be configured in the hive-site.xml configuration file.

Add the following to the configuration file:

system:java.io.tmpdir

/usr/local/hive/tmp

/usr/local/hive/tmp, which is a directory you created yourself
