In the backbone network, the MPLS platform based on ISIS protocol is often used, in which manually setting the Metrix value of ISIS is a common means to control the direction of traffic.
I would like to share with you 2 problems encountered when changing the metricvalue in the backbone of an enterprise this week. (the PS simulation experiment is a simplified mini version)
Lab requirements:
Control the direction of traffic by setting the ISISMetricvalue
Topological environment description
1. All interconnected IP are shown in the figure.
2. The Loopback0 port address of all the devices is X.XUniver 32Magi X, which is the equipment number.
3. All devices run isis and only run in level-2-only
The experimental requirements are realized:
Basic command configuration:
Router isis
Net 49.0001.0000.0000.000X.00
Is-type level-2-only
(X stands for 1-5)
Input iprouter isis test under the interface
Problems found and reference solutions:
(1) on the wide metric of metric.
When I want to type isis metric 20000 on R1, an error like the figure above pops up. When I look up the prompt, I realize that I need to change the metric mode to "wide metric mode" (prompt below)
The following changes have been made:
Router isis
Metric-style wide level-2
Found that there are still the above mistakes.
Later changes restrict the change of a specific metricvalue to a specific area, as follows:
Isis metric 20000 level-2
(2) when changing the metric for a specific line, you need to keep the metric at both ends of the same line unchanged.
When I modify the metricvalue of f0bind 1 of R1 to 20000, I realize that the traffic from R1 to R3 is R1-R2-R3, but the traffic from R3 to R1 is R3-R1, as shown in the following figure:
It is different from the expected effect, and then the value of Metric1 in f0max of R3 is correspondingly changed to 20000, as shown in the figure:
The reason for ensuring that the metric change of f0Uniq1 between R1 and R3 is the same, personal understanding is to correctly select the optimal route when the subsequent lines interconnected with the two devices (R1 and R3) are routed. There are many equipment lines involved this time, and the actual line optimization confirms the original understanding.
