Why should M.2 SSD pay attention to slots? Performance can vary greatly due to different slots

During the epidemic, SSD price adjustment not only saved a lot of money for everyone to install the machine, but also became more and more popular in terms of capacity and price. When it comes to M.2, everyone knows that it is a solid-state drive interface, but not all M.2 interfaces can install various types of solid-state drives. But take a shot first, whether it is a veteran or a novice, now upgrade M.2 SSD have some problems to pay attention to, or do you believe that there are problems minute by minute? Motherboard, M.2 SSD bought back, but may be due to the wrong M.2 slot of the motherboard, resulting in a discount on the performance of SSD, why do you say so?

M.2 SSD was originally a high-speed disk interface used by Apple. According to the slot itself, there are now two common NGFF slots, B mode and M mode, and you can see that there is an anti-dull port on the NGFF slot. Hongwang Semiconductor has learned that the anti-dumb mouth of B and M is the opposite and that the two cannot be mixed. And the width of the shorter gold finger on both sides is also different, so it won't fit if you reverse the SSD. Now the NGFF slots on desktop PC are mainly in M mode, while B mode is more common on notebooks. In the image below, the green PCB is the M mode slot on the M6E expansion card, and the blue PCB is the B mode slot in the notebook.

M.2 SSD is divided into three main types according to the type of slot:

First, B mode, B mode is actually a general SATA channel equivalent to a MSATA slot. Theoretical interface speed 6G/S. However, the M.2 SSD of the pure B-mode slot on the market is very rare, and now even the M.2 SSD of the SATA channel will retain the anti-dumb port of M mode.

Second, NGFF M mode, which can support both SATA and PCI-E slots at the same time. However, the current M.2 SSD is not rigorous enough, and most of them are of this type. But in fact, you still need to correspond to the channel type of SSD and slot before you can use it. The theoretical interface speed of Bhand M mode is twice as fast as that of B mode and half of M mode. Theoretical interface speed 6G/S (SATA channel), 10G/S (PCI-E 2.0X2), 12G\ S (M.2 channel), 20G\ S (PCI-E 3.0X2). There will be gaps on both sides of the anti-dull ports of the Bachet M mode SSD, so both slots can be used. However, the current Bazaar M mode SSD generally only supports the bandwidth of PCI-E X2, so the theoretical limit performance is half that of M mode SSD.

Third, M mode, M mode SSD is a pure PCI-E channel, now the products are relatively less, because the limit speed of the slot is the fastest, mainly some high-end products. The theoretical interface speed is 20g / s (PCI-E 2.0x4) and 40g / s (PCI-E 3.0x4). The M-mode SSD only has an open-defense slot on the M side, so the B-mode slot cannot be inserted.

Take, for example, a piece of high-performance M.2 SSD that goes through the PCIe 3.0x4 channel and supports the NVMe protocol. What is the performance difference if it is plugged into the PCIe 2.0x4 slot? On the PCIe 3.0x4 slot, the continuous read and write speed of this SSD is 3019MB/s and 2035MB/s, while on the PCIe 2.0x4 slot, the continuous read and write speed has dropped significantly, or even halved.

So the high-performance M.2 SSD must be connected to the correct motherboard slot. However, it should be noted that the M.2 slot equipment is different for different motherboards. Although some motherboards have M.2 slots, they are all PCIe 3.0x2, which is faster than PCIe 2.0x4, but still does not meet the standard of PCIe 3.0x4.

As a quality sponsor of domestic memory chips, Hongwang Semiconductor has focused on the memory industry for 16 years. The M.2 NVME SSD N800 TX series launched adopts M.2 NVME PCIE3.0 interface, supports ECC error correction technology, and optimizes NAND error correction performance, thus improving the reliability and life of the hard disk with a capacity up to 512GB.

The 2.5 "SSD launched by Hongwang Semiconductor, which uses SATAIII interface, is relatively light and thin, and provides the bandwidth of 6Gb/s. The transmission speed is very fast, continuous reading speed is 500MB/s, continuous writing speed is 500MB/s. In the face of large file transfer, it can save time and effort. Cover 120GB, 256GB and other capacities, so that you have plenty of space to store movies, music, photos, documents and games.
