Under the background of the cloud on the whole station, cloud computing is not only the exclusive concept of large Internet companies, but also is being adopted by more traditional enterprises, small and medium-sized enterprises and even individual webmasters. Among the many cloud computing services, the two most common products are CVM and CDN. In the third lecture of today's CDN encyclopedia, we will introduce your concern: if you use a cloud server, do you still need to do CDN acceleration?

Come to a conclusion: CVM and CDN have different business scenarios and cannot replace each other. At the same time, they can complement each other to achieve the goal of improving efficiency.

Compared with traditional servers, CVM provides services for users in the computing form of simple, efficient, safe and reliable, flexible and scalable processing capacity, which helps to reduce users' enterprise IT costs and improve the efficiency of operation and maintenance. With the development of cloud computing, cloud server, as a basic service, has been welcomed by many enterprises and webmasters, which is used to deploy official websites, information portals, e-commerce applications, office systems and so on to carry data. CVMs with different specifications, prices and performance are available for different business scenarios.

The full name of CDN is Content Delivery Network, which refers to the distribution of content from the origin server to the node server closest to the user, so that the user can get the required content nearby and improve the response speed and success rate of user access. To solve the problem of access delay caused by distribution, bandwidth and server performance, it is suitable for accelerated distribution of site acceleration, music, pictures, files, VOD, live streaming, applications and other content.

Let's take the logistics system behind the 618 promotion as an example. The server origin server is equivalent to a brand's own warehouse, while CDN is like a warehouse logistics point distributed everywhere.

Now many brands will store some commonly used goods in advance at local warehousing and logistics points (static files are cached by CDN). When users place an order to buy goods from the e-commerce platform (user requests), the platform matches to the nearest warehousing and logistics point according to the user's harvest address and directly carries out delivery (nearest distribution), so that users can get express parcels (distributed content) as quickly as possible. We can make a comparison with our actual life experience. If you send it to users in Hangzhou from Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai, you can arrive the next day. If you ship the goods from Beijing or Shenzhen, it will take 2-3 days!

This scheme can also avoid the wind inspection that all orders are shipped from a single warehouse, and when the nearest warehouse is busy, it can intelligently match other nearest warehouses for diversion, which can reduce the transportation (bandwidth) cost of all parcels shipped from the main warehouse (origin server) to various places. In addition, the shared warehousing logistics point (CDN) model can also perfectly adjust the warehousing scale and scheme according to sales demand, and avoid idle waste of resources after building self-built warehouses (multi-local CVM) after the business peak.

Therefore, reducing latency, improving stability, reducing bandwidth costs, and flexibility are all advantages of using CDN. In addition, CDN can also:

First, reduce the pressure on server bandwidth

If your server supports 1000 people online at the same time, when more than 1000 people visit your site, there will be access bottlenecks, delays, stutters and even downtime problems. After using CDN, CDN can cache the static content of the website on the edge node, so that users do not have to request back to the origin server when accessing static resources, thus reducing the peak bandwidth of the server.

Second, protect the origin server

Due to the distributed architecture of CDN, users get the content by visiting the nearest edge node, and through such a springboard, the IP of the origin server is effectively hidden, thus decomposing the access pressure of the origin server. When a large-scale malicious attack comes, CDN can also be used as the first line of defense to greatly disperse the attack intensity. Even if it is a malicious request for dynamic content, CDN's intelligent scheduling system can also unload the pressure on the origin server and maintain the stability of the system.

I believe that after reading this article, someone will ask you whether you want to use CDN after using the CVM, and you should have the answer.
