Problem description

On the file server, we usually create folders and set access permissions according to the department, so how to achieve the folder quota limit through fine settings, that is, to limit the amount of data storage space in the folder?

Folder quotas differ from disk quotas in that disk quotas limit the amount of disk space that a user can use, while folder quotas limit the storage space of folders, regardless of individual users.

Solution method

1. Install the File Server Explorer role.

Start the server manager-Add roles and features-all the way according to the default setting Next-Server Selection-make sure the local server is selected:

Confirm the installation of Confirmation-Install:

The installation is complete with Close:

two。 Create an IT department folder on the file server and grant the domain user zhangla1 read and write control.

2.1 create a folder named IT on disk D, and right-click IT-Share with-Specific people... :

2.2 add domain user zhangla1 read and write permissions: Find people... :

Grant Read/Write permissions:

3. Set folder quota to realize folder quota management.

3.1 Open File Server Explorer: Service Manager-Tools-File Server Resource Manager:

3.2 create a new quota policy and expand Quotation Management-Quotas-Create Ouotation... Create a new quota policy:

3.3Click Browse... Browse to the IT folder-OK to select the folder to which the policy needs to be applied:

3.4 Application scope Select Create quota on path indicates that the maximum quota in the folder is the set size, in How do you want to configure quota properties? Select Derive properties from this quota template (recommanded) at-Select 100MB to select a preset template with a folder quota of 100MB:

Or you can choose a custom folder quota template and apply: select Define custom quota properties... -Select the default template that is closest to the custom template you want to customize. I chose the template of 100MB Limint-Copy-modify Limit to 125MB-OK:

Click Create to save the custom folder quota policy as a preset template:

Enter the name of the new preset template 125MB Hard Limit-OK:

The folder quota for the IT folder is created with the 125MB Hard Limit custom preset template:

4. Test the effect of folder quotas.

Map the IT folder to a network drive letter: right-click my computer on the Win7 client computer-Map network drive... :

Name the drive letter as disk I according to the first letter of the folder-enter the Folder path\ Dc01\ it-Finish:

Double-click my computer to see the network letter of disk I, double-click to open disk I to access:

Copy a 283MB file to disk I:

There is not enough space after pasting to disk I:

Try to copy a file with more than 40 MB and copy it successfully:

At this point, the folder quota setting and testing is complete.

5. Modify folder quota properties.

5.1 stop using folder quotas, right-click folder-Disable Quotas:

5.2 modify quota attributes, right-click folder-Edit Quota Properties... :

Modify folder quota size, etc.:

6. In addition, if you select Auto apply template and create quotas on existing and new subfolders at 3.4, it means that you are not subject to quota restrictions under this folder, but the new subfolders and subfolders under this folder automatically apply this quota policy, that is to say, the folder quota of the subfolder under this folder is the preset size, for example, if 125MB is set, then the folder configuration of the folder under this folder is 125MB.

6.6.The folder is not subject to quota restrictions. The quota is set to the folder quota of 125MB. Currently, 407MB is placed:

6.2 A quota limit is charged for the subfolder under this folder. When placing 158MB files in the subfolder IT-01, it is indicated that there is not enough space:
