Sogou said that the increase in other income was mainly due to the increase in sales revenue of smart hardware products in the first quarter. In 2019, Sogou creatively introduced AI assistant into the input method product, and added facial expression recommendation, quip recommendation, information recommendation, weather recommendation and "chat for you" and other functions to improve the user experience.
According to Ai media data, in terms of China's third-party mobile phone input method user share in the first half of 2019, Sogou Input accounted for the largest user share, at 43.2%. Secondly, the user share of Baidu input method is also large, which is 43.1%. In addition, iFlytek Input accounts for 8.7% of users.
At present, mobile phone input method will be an important application scene of AI technology. With the maturity and progress of AI technology, it tends to be more intelligent. Sogou CEO Wang Xiaochuan said that Sogou will release an AI product in the second half of this year. Hardware revenue is expected to increase as a percentage of total revenue this year and will be profitable next year.
In view of this, at present, Sogou's main business-Sogou search and Sogou Input are in a highly competitive market environment, revenue growth is difficult. In addition, its revenue can not cover its input cost, and it has been in a state of continuous loss. Sogou, who is betting on intelligent hardware, still has a long way to go if he wants to rely on AI to turn losses into profits.
