With the rise of cloud computing, big data, mobile Internet and smart cities, Internet data traffic shows an explosive growth trend. Operators urgently need to upgrade their existing data centers to cloud data centers to provide more flexible business and application support. The current data centers are mainly based on 10G Ethernet architecture. in order to be able to handle the increasing data load, these data centers must be expanded by increasing the bandwidth capacity in parallel with the existing infrastructure. Interestingly, compared with the well-known upgrade route of 10G → 40G → 100G, operators now prefer to choose the evolution path of 10G → 25G → 100G. How can 25g replace 40G as the baton of 10G?
In fact, as long as the 25G and 40G standards are simply compared, we can draw a conclusion that the 25G evolution path is better than the 40G upgrade path. On the one hand, although 40G can be achieved by aggregating four 10GbE physical channels, or 10 10GbE channels can be aggregated to run 100G speeds, these solutions are more expensive and more power consuming than 25G. On the other hand, compared with 10G pill 25G scheme, it has the advantage of enhancing computing and storage efficiency, can provide higher bandwidth and faster connection, and can run two 25G channels to achieve 50G, or four channels to achieve 100G. When the transition to the next generation network, its capital and operating expenses are relatively balanced. More importantly, 25GbE is backward compatible and can communicate with 10G, so after adding new servers, it can still work with existing network equipment, making it easier for network operators to expand their data centers. Because of the above significant advantages, it is very reasonable for the 25g scheme to become the 10G baton.
At present, there are two main packaging modes for 25G Ethernet optical modules in the industry, namely SFP28 (1x25Gbps) and QSFP28 (4x25Gbps). Among them, the SFP28 optical module is based on the SFP+ package form, which can provide error-free code transmission of 25Gb/s, the transmission distance can reach 100m in super-four types of multimode optical fiber, and can be used in high-density 25G Ethernet switches and network interfaces, thus upgrading 10G Ethernet × × higher price-to-price solutions for operators. The QSFP28 optical module can provide four 25Gbps high-speed signal channels and can be used in high-density 25G Ethernet switches and network interfaces, which provides a smooth upgrade possibility for the data center to further evolve to 100Gbps Ethernet (4x25Gbps).
The demand for higher speed and performance in data centers will never stop in the future. Looking back at the evolution of 25G over the past few years, you will find that the emergence of 25G is a milestone in the expansion of network bandwidth and channel capacity in the next generation of data centers. Yi Tianguang Communication has been developing and producing optical modules for a long time, providing various series of optical modules, such as 1.25GMagne10GMagne25GMagne40GMagne100G, etc., which can meet the various needs of operator customers to upgrade data centers.
